Gardner White to the rescue.

According to Killer on MLivehttp://www.mlive.com/sports/The furniture company bought up remaining Lions tickets to avert the local Black-out.
Just a few hours ago, the Lions reported that they still had 3,100 tickets remaining and if they didn't sell out by 1 p.m. Thursday, the Sunday game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers at Ford Field would not be televised locally.

Furniture store Gardner-White, however, never let it get to that stage. The store purchased the remaining tickets Wednesday evening and the blackout has now been lifted

3,100 tickets unsold for the opening game of the season vs. a traditional rival. Gosh the economy and team have been so bad for so long that this game wasn't sold out.
Thank you Gardner White*

*Since it's the Lions game I almost feel I shoud add "May I have another"!

What incentive did they have to buy all those tickets? Are they running a blowout sale... buy a piece of furniture get 40 free lions tickets? :-b

I have a feeling it has to do with how much they spent on advertising during the game.

(Almost as much as the Lions spent on "The Time is Now" commercials that played between the TDs from the Falcons)

"Sir, your total comes to $497.00. Would you like to buy some leather conditioner for your couch for $4.99? That would bring your total to over $500, and you would get 4 free tickets to this weekends Lions game."

"I'll take the conditioner, but ring them up separately."
