My folks would leave for work a good hour before I left for school, so they'd have no idea if I went to school or not. Needless to say, they were pretty unhappy when they found out.
now they call, and if your parents don't verify it within 48 hours, you get detention.
We didn't have phones in the 1830s when I was a High Schooler. It was all done by Carrier Pigeon.

of course, and pigeons are easily distracted = no school for Knapp.
I turned 18 January of my senior year, one time the school called to tell my parents to tell them I had skipped some classes. My dad said "Bobby is an adult now, if you have a problem with Bobby's attendance please call him." Awesome.
Funny thing is when I was late for class I wrote my own notes. One time I wrote "Bobby was late for class because he overslept. thanks, Bobby." Seriously thats word for word.
We always had senior skip day the Friday before Prom. The school was literally empty because the seniors occupied the main hallway. I am hoping my office organizes a skip day sometime soon.
The school I attended my senior year had a senior skip day = suspension policy. The threat being it would go on our records and muck up college acceptance.
I was personally known for skipping Mondays. When my mom was about to get remarried she was going out of town every weekend and not coming back till Monday night. So I had the lake house to myself all weekend, and missed school on Mondays for over a month straight before she caught on. As my classmates used to say, 'Scott just doesn't like Mondays.'

Being a government worker for Nebraska, we kind of have a "skip day" built in to our schedule. It's called Arbor Day, and we get it off as a paid holiday.
Mine was more like Senior Skip Year. Missed a lot of school my Senior year, though I skipped a lot my other three years as well. I've never heard of a skip day coming in September, usually at the end of the year, but why would you skip school, then stay home and sit at your computer typing with us dorks? Get some friends, get some girls, get some beer, go to a lake somewhere.

Sounds like something my dad would have done.
I was only in second grade when I got my first teacher fired if that's any indication.
I am the Reaper of Men, The Chaser of Souls, The Weaver of Nightmares, I am The Heart of Darkness. I now, and ever will be, The Purity of Evil.
