So I'm in an 8 man league with a one free agent pickup per week rule with the last place team picking first up on to the best placed team.
Reasons why I did this:
-eliminates "computer hawking" - was in a league where someone took Shaun Alexander's backup (the Madden cover year) five minutes after he went down. The result was..."WTF, you loser, I lost Alexander and should have first dibbs on Morris! I'm in last place and need Morris!" etc...
-Puts more emphasis on planning, research, and making good decisions. A bad decision will be compounded in this league.
-Parity, a team that may have lost a few games due to injury, a bad decision or two, etc... will have a few extra losses, but will be able to rebound with consistently better free agent pickups. In an 8 man league, there are QUALITY free agents out there.
-Helped handle bye weeks and injuries with a 19 man roster (3 extra roster slots) and 1 IR slot (can put people who are out for a few weeks in there). Hopefully people drafted and picked up free agents accordingly.
I like the system, most other commissioners here HATE it: viewtopic.php?t=401968
I don't think most of those commissioners have ever actually tried a one pickup per week league though, but anyway. I liked the one gentlemen's idea of "purchasing" additional free agents and will probably try to put that into place next year.
Anyone have any other unusual or different Free agency systems?
