Week 5 Games Talk

Postby deerayfan072 » Wed Sep 24, 2008 6:55 pm

It was good to be the SEC road team last week.

Alabama ripped Arkansas and looks like a player in the Western Division. LSU and Florida won away from home against big rivals. Georgia, already with a road win over South Carolina, won its longest road trip in decades against Arizona State.

This week, two Big Ten hopefuls look to pad their resumes with major road wins – Wisconsin hopes to win at Michigan for the first time since 1994 and Illinois hopes to win at Penn State for the first time ever.

In the SEC, Georgia returns home to face Alabama. For the second consecutive week, ESPN gets the top SEC game over CBS, which is the conference's flagship network. CBS opted for Florida-Tennessee ahead of LSU-Auburn last week. This weekend, ESPN chose Alabama-Georgia; there are three predetermined weekends where ESPN gets first dibs on the SEC game.

But enough of all the wheeling and dealing, here are the Five to Watch for the week.

USC @ Oregon State. I wish I could say history makes this a possible loss for USC, but not this year , I'm afraid.

Meanwhile, Beavers' woes include turnovers (80th in nation in turnover ratio, 4 gained, 5 lost), porous defense (92nd in nation in scoring, 29.3 ppg), shoddy kicking game (114th nationally in net punting, 29.2 ypp, 2-of-5 on FGs). QB Lyle Moevao is 2nd in the lg avg. 307 ypg.

USC is favored by 26.

I know and it should rise even more :-L

USC hasn't beaten OSU by more than 24 in the lasr 12 or so years. Also, the games in corvalles have been pretty close usually. Add to it that Thursday night home dogs seem to always cover, and I will be taking OSU close to kickoff with as many points as I can get :-)

Couple jokes...

Q: Why do Oregon State fans wear orange?

A: So they can go to games on Saturday, go hunting on Sunday, and pick up garbage on road crew the rest of the week.

Q: How do you get to Corvallis from Eugene?

A: Head north until you smell it and west until you step in it.

Wtf? It didn't look like he was even CLOSE to that first down, yet they gave it to him without even measuring?

Oh man that's one of those scenarios where you've got to go for the scoop rather than falling on it. 3rd down just out of FG range, even if USC somehow gets it back it costs you a few yards of field position, with a clean scoop he could have housed that.
