Start Tight Ends against San Diego!!!

Postby The Lung » Tue Sep 30, 2008 1:57 pm

I saw this on two different fantasy football websites today, so I can't claim credit (or be held responsible :-) ) but consider the following:

Oakland's Zach Miller scored a touchdown Sunday against the Chargers, so that's now a touchdown for every tight end to face San Diego this year which includes Dante Rosario, Tony Scheffler and Dustin Keller.

Miami's Anthony Fasano is next in Week 5. (David Martin might be a worthy gamble as well)

I dropped Fasano for his bye week, picked up Owen Daniels [8.7 points, thank you], dropped Seattle TE Carlson [kept Daniels instead] and picked up Fasano again for this coming match up against SanDiego. If Fasano has as good a week as people are predicting he is either a keeper or great trade bait. Luckily for me, I had planned this move and grabbed Fasano before these reports came out. Another owner just took Greg Olsen and would have surely grabbed Fasano if I hadn't moved fast. LOL!

With Fasano's points so far this year, he is among the top TEs in the league. Hard to believe a Miami guy is doing so well.

Yeah, it was the SD matchup which had me regretting recommending that a friend of mine drop Fasano/Shockey. He dropped Fasano and then I started browsing week 5 TE projections and thought "Holy Geez." They've allowed 5 total TDs to TEs in 4 games, with decent yardage in most cases. You have to start your TEs against them.

Greg Olsen or even Dez Clark are nice sleeper TEs this Sunday. Historically the Lions don't cover TE's well, and their current group of LBs are way too slow to handle the likes of Olsen. I expect a TD and nice yardage from one of them, most likely Olsen.

I'm trying to find a bye week replacement and was looking at either Kevin Boss (with Plaxico out I think they'll need to use him) or Billy Miller (same situation and Shockey is out), but the list above shows both the Seahawks and the Vikings as being relatively stout against TEs.

Do people really think a David Martin pickup is smarter than either of these? I'm having a tough time believing he'll really outproduce either of these guys this week.

Let's be fair... we (the vikes) haven't really played any great tight ends and clark was out when we played the colts. Not saying we aren't good against TEs... we might be... just tough to tell based on who we've played. That being said... I think Brees beats our defenders deep more than he goes underneath to Miller. I think Boss is a better pickup than miller out of those 2. :-)
