Is this trade fair?

Postby arlob » Fri Oct 03, 2008 9:46 pm

I'm the comish in a league and would like to know if you think this trade is fair. Major complaint is the two best players are Johnson and Burress and going to the same team. QBs throwing TDs are worth 3 points. rushing and receiving TDs are worth 6points.

Team 1 sends the 4 players listed below

Dante Rosario (Car - TE)
Jerricho Cotchery (NYJ - WR)
Laurence Maroney (NE - RB)
Kurt Warner (Ari - QB)

Team 2 sends the 3 players below

Larry Johnson (KC - RB)
Tony Scheffler (Den - TE)
Plaxico Burress (NYG - WR)

It's definitely a bit lopsided, but by no means is it vetoable IMO. Scheffler is still a boom or bust guy from week to week (though he obviously has more upside than Rosario), and I actually see Cotchery and Burress as quite equal from here on out (especially with the missed game this week). The way I see it, this deal is basically Warner and Maroney for LJ, which I have no problem with - the guy clearly needs QB help and is just hoping that Maroney will somehow find his '06 form as a throw-in as far as I can tell. I would still rather be on the LJ/Plax side, but to be honest there is nothign that should be done in this case IMO...

Hope this helps ;-D

I think it's fair. I think that the 3 players are individually better than the 4 players. But its not as if Warner Cotchery are chopped liver. And like the other guy said..maybe this dude is high on Maroney.

Welcome to the Cafe! ;-D

I agree with WaCoug. The trade is a little lopsided, but not vetoable unless you think these 2 owners are cheating/colluding to make 1 team better. That's the only reason a trade should be vetoed...no matter how lopsided it looks on paper. That's why 'league votes' on trades lead to so many problems. Owners veto trades just because they think it makes one team really strong. I hope that helps a little. Good luck! ;-D

The two making the deal are father and son if that helps.

If the trade was really lopsided I can see how that may be suspicious, but this trade doesn't seem too lopsided. Fine by me.

If you let them in the league then you can't hold them to a different standard.
I'm not even sure which side wins that deal. Sure, Plax is the top player, but you are talking a WR1 a RB2/3 with a big downside and a TE for a QB1 (Warner is a 1 in most leagues, and at worse a high 2) a WR2 with good upside, a RB3/4 and a TE.

If I was stuck with a Kitna/Cassel type at QB I would do that deal all day long.
