I was a little surprised to see Oklahoma ranked as high as they are until I sat down to do my own rankings, and honestly, there aren't a lot of teams I'd put ahead of them. They still have a crazy-good offense, Bradford is a legitimately scary QB, and their DEF is still pretty good. I didn't get to watch the Red River game (daddy obligations ), but I've seen OU play several times this year. There aren't a lot of teams that are going to challenge them, honestly. Yeah, the Big XII is pretty deep this year, but I don't see them losing again with their remaining schedule.

A lot of quirky things happened in that game. Texas pretty much still had their way with the Sooner defense. If the game had been played in Norman, i believe it would have been a different story.

Haha yeah, for all my complaining about it once I actually sat down and looked at the alternatives I ended up putting them in the same spot
Did you guys see the Harris poll? You know, the poll that actually counts towards the BCS. A voter in the Harris poll voted Utah number 1 overall. Texas, Alabama, and Penn State were the only teams to get a first place vote in ANY poll, but Utah got that one vote in the Harris poll. Reading about it a little more I found that a voter in the Harris poll is the former AD of Utah. Coincidence? I think not.
I did not see that, Dee. It's hardly surprising, though.
There's a fair amount of bias in just about any poll, any ranking. As objective as I try to be, it was hard for me to swallow all the critiquing the Big XII was getting the past couple of years, and specifically the weak Big XII North. Now that the North has a top-ten team and two last year, I have a smidge of pride about that - I'll be honest.
Putting those biases aside is difficult. I've made a concerted effort this year to do due dilligence on most of the top 25 teams. I think Utah and Boise St. are the only two I haven't watched for at least a half a game so far, but even with that conscious effort, I spend most of my time watching Big XII football because... I live here in Big XII country.
It's a bit inevitable. But that doesn't excuse that Utah vote.

I definelty agree about a bit of a bias, which is why we have everyone from across the country. I can tell you from looking at our rankings so far, just missing one, people closer to the SEC voted for Bama 1, and people close to Big 12 voted for Texas 1. This has to do with people watching these teams week in and week out and noting just how good they are. With that said, I cannot see how anyone can look at Utah and say they are the number 1 team in the country. They are undefeated, but so are other teams that have played much better schedules and won in more convincing fashion. I like Utah, and I think they are a good team. I said it before the season started, but 1 in the country is insane. The person who voted them 1 knows that the Harris poll effects what is important, the BCS poll.
Didn't someone lose their vote for something similar to that a few years ago?
I mean, being biased is one thing. Being biased is ranking them 8th when everyone else has them 12th, or something like that. But #1? That's just on a whole different level.

Some moron ranked Boise #1 after the 2006 season. I don't remember if he lost his vote or not.
