Where goeth Kitna?

Postby moochman » Tue Oct 14, 2008 11:18 am

According to Killer the 9ers have renewed interest in Kitna, this according to MLive http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2008/10/niners_making_a_pitch_for_kitn.html
Here's the whole article:
Niners making a pitch for Kitna?
by Tom Kowalski
Tuesday October 14, 2008, 9:55 AM
While a source said yesterday that the Niners were not interested in trading for Lions quarterback Jon Kitna, another source said offensive coordinator Mike Martz is still trying to convince team officials to make a pitch for Kitna.

It appears that Kitna will be placed on injured reserve if he's not dealt by today's 4 p.m. deadline but, so far, the Lions haven't done anything officially. The Lions could be waiting to see if there's going to be some last-minute action.

Martz and Kitna have a very close relationship and it's believed that Martz is trying to convince head coach Mike Nolan that Kitna could be the answer to their quarterback problems.

The Niners have lost their last three games -- they haven't won since beating the Lions in week three -- and O'Sullivan is completing just over 50 percent of his passes while throwing four touchdowns and seven interceptions in that span.

Apparently, members of San Francisco's personnel department, while acknowledging the problems at quarterback, are resisting the move to bring in Kitna.

While the Lions believe Kitna's back problems make him a candidate for the injured reserve list -- which means he'd be lost for the season -- Kitna has maintained that he'll be able to return to the field in a week or two.

Sounds like Martz wants his female dog back and there are rumblings that if they don't turn it around soon HC Nolan could get fired.
Wouldn't you think the morons in the Lions FO would take something rather than nothing for the Kitna? He is surely a cancer in the lockerroom with his open fueding with Colletto & Kippy and placing him on IR serves no purpose other than to say screw you Jonny.
That the idiots woudl think of putting him on IR when he feels he can play in a couple weeks shows the cluelessness of this organization that will remain if they insist on keeping Lewand and Mayhew. Do they feel the Kid Injury Stanton is going to survive the season any more than the Polish Popgun will (can Orlovski change his number to 2?) ? So why dispose of your best QB?
And doesn't this make you question the whole Martz forced Stanton to go on IR last year story? Aren't they threatening to do the same thing with Kitna?

I hope the Lions can start unloading players today and will be very disappointed if Kitna and Roy are still wearing Honalulu Blue and Silver come Sunday.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see him go back to the Bengals with Carson's injury and all. Granted its a rebuilding year for them as well, but they already have their franchise QB, its not like they have some young potential stud to throw in the mix (unless you want to argue that Carson's brother is a potential stud.) :-b The fact is fitzpatrick can't get it done, I don't think he'd even be on our roster of terrible QBs so they need someone.

Either way as long as kitna is not under our center I am a happy camper.

You have to admit they gave Kitna a raw deal though. I mean hes saying he isnt even injured.... I dont know, I mean hes not the best i realize that. But he didnt do anything but play hard. And i also thinks it sends a crappy message to people and players across the league. Future free agents might think well remember how they did Kitna.... eh, oh crap its cold too!! No way!!

This does send up another warning flare that we Lions fans are not out of the woods yet. As long as Lord Ford and the Butt-kissing fools he employs, most notably Mayhew, Lewand, and the NimRod bunch remain in control the Lions will never field a playoff or championship caliber team. This treatment of Kitna seems to be more out of vindictiveness than any other purpose. He openly showed his displeasure at the stone age O schemes that Kippy & Coletto feature so they got rid of him...and made sure he didn't play for anyone else. A move that did nothing to help the team. Only a few months ago NimRod couldn't stop talking about how great Kitna is and now all he'll say about why the place him on IR is that "that's the direction the team wanted to take" Classic Lions puppet. Tote the Co. line. Being a Lions FO person means never having to explain your logic. And not having to explain means never having to be held accountable. And we all know that unaccountable logic is by definition Lions Logic.

Could this be another decent move by the Lions :-?

With Nolan now out in SF, will the mad man Martz want to tell the defensive Singletary that the way to win games is by getting a decent QB that has experience in the system....I wonder who he would want....maybe Kitna. We might be able to fleece a pick out of the 9ers ;-D

I can't recall the timeline, but I don't think Kitna was a Martz hire, was he? And doesn't Martz pride himself on molding undrafted QBs into Probowlers?

Bah, the Lions will just have more useless rookies next year. They might as well train them to bag groceries or sell Cell phones (Tatum Bell ).

No, Kitna came in with Martz. Prior to that we had Blueskies and Fairycakes (Harrington and Garcia) The real problem is that if we keep NimRod the hitchhiker we are done. He will insist they trade Kitna for somebody's elses Ex-Buccaneer.
