How does Crabtree compare to Calvin Johnson?

Postby dmacblue » Sat Nov 29, 2008 1:53 pm

When Megatron was drafted he was touted as the best WR in a very long time.

Crabtree is clearly the consensus WR1 pick of the 2009 draft; how closely does he compare to Megatron in terms of ability and potential. Certainly the second part of that question is related to WHO he is drafted by.

Thanks guys, Id be interested to know your thoughts.

Crabtree will go to the Lions, and will be a semi-bust.Calvin was in college and will be the better WR in the NFL out of the 2.The size, speed and talent all go to Calvin,Crabtree isn't better than Calvin in any aspect of the game coming out of college than Calvin was.

I truly dont him even beign a consideration for Lions at #1 :-?

With all the problems they have, I see WR being just about the LAST position theyll look at with Megatron there.

thats for the thoguhts on Crabtree though

yea there is no way the lions draft a wr at 1. they have far too many problems as illustrated above. they probably go with a qb like matt stafford.

as far as the comparison of Crabtree to Johnson, I just dont see a comparison at all-- but nothing against crabtree. CJ is bigger, faster, stronger, a better route runner, etc etc with much more potential. He is actually all those things better than most of the recievers in the nfl. He is physically superior to virtually every defensive player he plays against.

The only thing holding CJ down is that god awful franchise. So that being said, i could see Crabtree being a more productive nfl wideout since he will almost inevitable land in a better situation that CJ currently is in.

I've read a lot of early talk about people thinking he'll end up in Seattle, but I'm of the opinion that the Seahawks need to really start thinking about Walter Jones' replacement and with 3 very talented LTs in this year's draft (plus another 2 that are very solid) I'm starting to wonder if we would really draft Crabtree, draft a high end LT, or trade down into the middle of the round, grab a second tier guy to be an understudy for a while and hopefully pick up a good low end 2nd round pick where we can address our WR or secondary concerns.

Right now I seriously doubt Detroit goes WR, but I do think it's reasonable to assume Al Davis might go that route.

I think Crabtree will be as good as Andre Johnson is. Crabtree looks very similar to AJ when he came out of the U.

Crabtree is the best NFL WR prospect since Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. ;-D

I think he will be a stud. In comparison to Megatron I put him a notch behind.

Crabtree is better after the catch than CJ, similar to Boldin.

Crabtree is nowhere near the talent level of a Calvin Johnson IMO.

Those types of players only come around once or twice in a decade. Andre Johnson POTENTIAL is more like it. Could turn into more of a Roy Williams even.
