Cotchery Fumble?

Can't review a fumble. Hopefully they change this rule this off-season. Also, despite the play being screwy the fumble has to be on Smith. There is absolutely no way you can give it to Cotchery when he never had possession because if he had possession...

Can't review if the guy fumbled or not? That can't be a rule. Reviews are made all the time on RBs to determine if the "ground caused the fumble."

There's no question it was initially a fumble. I'm talking about when it was recovered...was he touched or not before the ball squirted out. What's not reviewable about that?

In the case of "ground caused the fumble" I think they are actually reviewing "down by contact". There are certain fumbles that can be reviewed because there are exceptions but generally speaking fumbles cannot be reviewed.

It doesn't matter if he was touched or not. He never had possession so it was a live ball when Smith pitched it and then it is just one long continuous fumble that cannot be reviewed.

Fumbles are almost always reviewed unless it's obvious. It probably wasn't reviewable for some other reason. Cotch was laying on the ball and was touched prior to the ball squirting out. Jets ball!
