What is a good scoring setup for defenses??

we're discussing this in my league....

this week i got outscored defensively. i had Miami D who played well and allowed no TDs and only 9 points, had 3 sacks but no turnovers to give me 9. I played against NYJ Def who played pretty bad, allowing 27 to the sucky Bills, but they came up with 4 turnovers, one went back for a garbage TD and one was a hail-mary INT to end the game that should have been batted down by any unselfish DB. (yes, im bitter.) 16 fantasy points for them. For next year,we're trying to think of some settings to change to make points allowed more important, or maybe even yardage allowed more important, but without making defenses more valuable as compared to other fantasy positions. i know Takeaways are a very important stat but shouldnt points/yardage allowed be more important? anybody have any good point settings you want to share?

our settings are currently like this-
sacks are 1
turnovers are 2
td's are 6
shut outs=10
points allowed decreases fantasy points to 0 after 24 i think and then -2 if giving up over 32.
i think these are the standard yahoo settings for defenses so we just stayed with them, but sometimes it doesnt reflect the better defense, imo.

Here's mine. It's probably close to what you're looking for as I designed it to reward defenses that did their job (did not allow points) and not the turnstile defense that sometimes got a pick themselves.

DFR - Defensive/ST Fumble Recovered (ID/DT/DST) 2 points
DTD - Total Defensive and Special Teams TD 4 points
Int - Interceptions 2 points
SACK - Sack 1 point
STY - Safety 2 points

PA - Points Against, Total Points Scored
0 - 3 PA = 20 points
4 - 6 PA = 15 points
7 - 13 PA = 9 points
14 - 21 PA = 6 points
22 - 34 PA = 0 points
35 - 41 PA = -3 points
42 - 60 PA = -8 points

YDS - Yards Allowed
0 - 49 YDSs = 20 points
50 - 99 YDSs = 15 points
100 - 149 YDSs = 12 points
150 - 199 YDSs = 9 points
200 - 249 YDSs = 6 points
250 - 299 YDSs = 4 points
300 - 349 YDSs = 2 points
350 - 449 YDSs = 0 points
450 - 499 YDSs = -5 points
500 - 599 YDSs = -10 points
600 - 999 YDSs = -15 points

This week in my league the Dolphins DST scored 16 points and the Jets D scored 17. So the Jets still scored more, but they were very close.

thats looks pretty good. i like the yardage factors and decreasing the TDs since in my league a pick-6 becomes 8 pts (td +turnover)and a receiving TD is only 6.

im trying not to increase the overall value of defenses compared to other positions. (i dont want the better defense to determine every game) so i might adapt your settings but maybe make it half of what you have for points allowed and half for yardage allowed, since we havent been giving anything for yardage....

actually those averages look pretty close in points to what im looking for. might have to consider this further.
