No way. If it was 4th and 15, I would have agreed, but 4th and 4 is very doable. If they punt, their best case scenario (barring a fumble) is that they have to go 70 yards with 1 or 0 time outs left and a minute and half or so to go. The chances of converting the 4th and then going down the field with all their time outs is a lot higher than that of getting a 3 and out and then traveling down with less time and 1 TO left. Also, Coles dropped the ball. That's not Mangini's fault. He called the right play and it worked. Mangini did all he could. He can't go catch the ball for Coles.
Totally disagree. Going for it there was completely the wrong call, you turn the ball over there(which is what happened)and you give Seattle the ball in field goal range. A made field goal puts Seattle up 2 scores(which again is what happened) and the game totally out of reach. If you punt and stop Seattle you give yourself a chance, sure you will have quite a bit of field to work but at least you still have a chance. And 70 yards with a timeout and a minute and a half is very doable.
We agree on one thing here: Going for it on 4th and 4 was deciding that that drive determined the game. Our difference in opinion comes from what we think is more likely. I believe it was more likely that they convert the 4th and 4 and then score. You think it's more likely that they got a 3 and out and then scored. Neither opinion is wrong, but it's just that: opinion. I wasn't so much surprised that you thought they should have punted, but rather I was surprised at how strongly you felt about it. As stated before though, I do believe going for it was the right move.

Thanks to abrunn for the awesome sig

How about this analysis: Brett Favre is the most overrated player in the History of Sports! 3 points against the f***ing seahawks, not much better against the niners, looked horrible hosting the chiefs, couldn't do anything against the raiders. As a Jet fan, I really miss Chad! Hope he wins next week.
