Here are 10 things you should know about this weekend's playoff opponent:
This is the Vikings' first playoff appearance since 2004. They lost to the Eagles, 27-14, in the divisional playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field. Longwell's kick yesterday gave Minnesota its first divisional crown since 2000, when they played in the NFC Central.
Despite the brutal winter conditions in Minneapolis, it is always a balmy 65 degrees inside the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The Vikings were 6-2 at home this season and 10-6 overall.
Adrian Peterson has been a monster out of the Vikings' backfield all season. Peterson ran for 103 yards yesterday and was the league's top rusher with 1,760 yards.
Minnesota has won nine of its last 12 games.
The fifth time was the charm. The Vikings had lost their last four "win and you're in" games to get into the playoffs. That streak was halted yesterday.
Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has recently been one of the league's most accurate passers. His 126.1 passer rating over the last 3 weeks was second only to the Colts' Peyton Manning.
Minnesota has the NFL's No. 1 run defense and the sixth-best defense overall. The Vikes also sport the third-ranked rushing offense.
This was the Vikings' first 10-win season since 2000, when they finished 11-5.
Wide receiver Bernard Berrian fell 63 yards short of 1,000 for the season. That would have given the Vikings their first 1,000-yard rushing and receiving combo since 2002 (Michael Bennett, 1,296 rushing; Randy Moss, 1,347 receiving).
In his 3 years as the Vikings' head coach, former Eagles offensive coordinator Brad Childress is 3-3 against the NFC East. Childress' squad lost to the Eagles last season in Minnesota, 23-16. *http://www.philly.com/dailynews/sports/ ... kings.html
