Canadian bacon I presume!
Definitely major kudos to the pilot for the excellent manner he managed to bring the plane down into a river. They were such a short distance from the airport that he was trying to go back - had he continued on he would crashed into the city not only killing everyone on board, but causing unknown devastation to those on the ground as well - that split second decison to abort and attempt an emergency landing in the river saved countless lives.

A lot of credit to the pilot for maintaining a wings level landing in water...the slightest tip would have sent the plane cartwheeling and a much worse scenario. Think about the luck...or if you prefer the higher intervention that put the plane over the water instead of over the city during its last few seconds of flight.
TO the best of my knowlede there are no great wide open spaces in that area to set a plane down.
Much more horrific results had they not been over the Hudson!
Whew!!! Pucker factor must have been way up on this one! Congrats to the pilot and crew...and the New York rescue units and civilian tugs, ferries, etc that ended this one on an incredible note!
Immediately after the cras, prior to boats rriving, passengers already getting onto the wings
Plane has been towed to a pier and securred
And the hero of the day, Captain Chesley Sullenberger who's 40+ years flying experience sure came in handy today. Additionally he was the last person to leave the plane and in fact insisted on personally checking out the entire plane to see if anyone was still on board rather than leave the task to rescue personnel on scene:
