I think there are ample examples of teams who have succeded and excelled without that kind of behavior. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 2001 Miami wasn't "Thug U." My understanding/impression was that they were a bunch of pretty decent kids who happened to play football pretty well.

I seem to recall a certain Mr. Tebow whose off-the-field activities give Mother Theresa a run for her money. I don't think he stole any cars to get where he is today, nor do I gather that too many of the starters on the UF DEF have, either.

I think he's trying to convey, in a pretty poor way, the fact that you need to have a certain edge to maintain your swagger. And that's understandable. I think most athletes would agree. It's just the idea of where that edge should come from that a lot of us would disagree with, based on Mr. Rolle's statements.
