The playing surface at Heinz Field received anything but an endorsement in a survey released Thursday.

According to the NFL Players Association, Heinz Field has the worst playing surface among NFL stadiums with natural grass.

The NFLPA surveys players every other year about playing surfaces, and the one at Heinz Field routinely ranks among the least popular.

Heinz Field finished second in the category of worst grass playing surfaces in 2006.

The NFLPA, which held its annual meeting yesterday at the Tampa Convention Center, polled 1,565 active players from September-November 2008.

Steelers players have largely said they like the playing surface at Heinz Field because it gives them an increased home-field advantage. Results from the survey suggested that, as a group, Steelers players don't think much more highly of the field than opposing players.
