Because you have some picks to give away, I think you are upgrading your team, especially for beyond 2009. The 1.9 pick is not a high-value pick, and since you have 2 1st round picks in 2010 as well, I would go for it.
For the slight upgrade, I don't like the value here, just because you have a surplus of picks doesn't mean you should just throw them in deals.
Even if it's small, I'd ask for a 2010 2nd from him, or a 3rd in this upcoming draft, or some picks somewhere, MJD is only 3 years younger, so I don't know if I'd want to give up 2 other first as well as Portis just to acquire him...I'm also not a big fan of trading picks a year in advance unless your really in love with the deal because you may be regretting that one down the line...As is I think he's coming out on top, but maybe that's just me, I'd definately ask for a mid round pick or 2 this year or next year though instead of having you give up 2 1st outright and letting him keep all his picks.

I agree with both posters. The 1.09 pick is a crap shoot this year. I would try and avoid the first rounder next year. Things happen. Your team goes to crap and you finish in the bottom 3, you may kick yourself.
Offer Portis, 1.09 and a 2nd next year and see what he says.

This is my thoughts exactly. I would always avoid trading first round pick because, while your team looks nice now, a lot can happen. Look at Brady last season. Portis, 1.9, and a 2nd next year should get it done -- especially since he's the one who came up with the offer.

Absolutely agreed. I'd counter-offer by substituting a 2010 2nd Rounder for your 2010 1st Rounder...
