Ok, first of all, this is a total shot in the dark, but if anybody would know the answer to the question it's you guys...
Last year before the NCAA tournament there was a writer on ESPN.com about the seeds and tendencies associated with them. This guy ran some crazy numbers about (for example) at-large teams seeded 8-12 win 75% of the time over automatic bid mid-majors, etc etc...
I think his name was Tim E... (but that is a pretty rough estimate)
His column isn't on ESPN.com anymore but I know he had his own website and I was wondering if anybody remembers or can track down this writer or his website.

I think I remember what you're talking about but I can't remember his name either....I don't even remember enough to tell you if Tim E... is on the right track. Sorry man.
