Derrick Ward Trade

Postby djadrock » Tue Mar 03, 2009 12:25 am

I am in a league where we only keep two players but each player must be from a different position. So far I am keeping Larry Fitz. Currently the best player I have left from a different position is Steve Slaton. (I had a WR stacked team last year.)

Anyways, I just got a trade proposal from an owner who is carrying a bunch of RBs. He is already keeping Roddy White and either Jacobs or Jackson.

Here is the trade:

I get D. Ward and a 5th round pick (serpentine draft)

for

I give A. Boldin and a 3rd round pick (extra pick from a trade)

What do you all think?

My personal thoughts are that this is a hefty price for Ward but then I look at my league and don't anticipate a lot of off-season trading (this is a new rule in our league this year)....so having Boldin means he either has a keeper or drops him. Ward should be okay in TB, which will probably buy some linemen with their $60 million under cap.

My quandry is Slaton...I don't think he is a HOF runningback but could he be a stopgap for me to draft someone else this year to be my keeper? So the trade also comes down to who has more value....Slaton or Ward

I do like Ward, but he is leaving one of the top o-lines in the game to go to Tampa. Also Tampa has an unsettled qb situation which could cause teams to stack the line against the run game. I would stick with Slaton and keep your picks. Good luck.

I would keep Slaton over Ward, so I don't see the point of doing this trade. You are basicall downgrading at RB and downgrading a draft pick IMO.

This is exactly how I feel!

Even without having Slaton, Boldin>Ward in my opinion, so you still downgrade players and draft picks. Stay put.

thanks for helping me! ;-D

Yeah I'm not seeing the point in this trade. Slaton is a much better keeper than Ward anyway. I would expect Ward to play a similar role to the one he did with the Giants, and share time with Earnest Graham.
