An arsonist appears to be on the hunt for green Ford Escorts from the 1990s, damaging three in west Medford in recent weeks.
"It's pretty bizarre," Medford police Detective Sgt. Mike Budreau said. "I think this person really doesn't like Ford Escorts."
A 1995 green Ford Escort was destroyed by flames early Sunday morning. A man heading to the airport to catch an early-morning flight spotted the fire in a driveway in the 1500 block of Kings Highway at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday and flagged down a Medford police officer patrolling the area, Budreau said.
The Medford Fire Department extinguished the blaze, which had consumed the parked Escort, Budreau said. Investigators determined that someone had broken the car's window, then poured in flammable liquid and lit it.
The fire was similar to one set in a 1993 green Ford Escort parked in a driveway in the 400 block of Columbus Avenue Feb. 22. That fire was started around 4:40 a.m. by someone who broke out a window, then poured flammable liquid into the vehicle, which was destroyed by the flames.
Investigators also have uncovered a Feb. 2 case in which a woman living in the 700 block of Dakota Avenue found a flat tire on her 1992 green Ford Escort and discovered that someone had placed a plastic container filled with flammable liquid next to the tire and lit it. The fire burned the tire, but then burned itself out, Budreau said.
"Seeing that all three are the same type of vehicle, we feel pretty certain that one person or group of people is responsible," he said. "We don't think that this is a coincidence."

Sounds like someone got wronged by someone in a green Escort and the person wants revenge, but they don't know the plates of the Escort so they are just blowing all of them up until they get the right one.

As in the "American way" is get a bigger hammer, kill a fly with a bazooka, "shock and awe", blow up all the green escorts till you get the right one....you feel me?

Why only green Escorts? You'd think a former employee or disgruntled employee would blow up any and all Fords, not just green Escorts.
