Torry Holt wants out...gets released...signs with Jax

Former St. Louis Ram Torry Holt to visit Jacksonville

DANA POINT, CALIF. _ Following his March 13 release from the St. Louis Rams, wide receiver Torry Holt took some time to regroup and recharge. He left the country on vacation, but returned earlier this week, and now he’s going about the business of finding a new job.

To wit, league sources told the Post-Dispatch on Wednesday evening that Holt will be paying a free-agent visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday. Jacksonville is in dire need of receiving help.

The team cut Jerry Porter and had no plans to re-sign free agent Reggie Williams. On March 16, the Jaguars released wide receiver Matt Jones following his arrest earlier this month on a probation violation stemming from drug charges last summer. Jones led Jacksonville with 65 catches for 761 yards last season.

Jacksonville would be one of the best possible places for Holt to go. He would be the clear cut #1 with a pretty decent QB.

I think Holt knows this and is probably the reason he's visiting there first. Even if Holt isn't interested in Jacksonville, they should be one of those teams that will offer a good contract and should give Holt a good springboard if/when he visits other franchises.

Two AFC South teams could be bidding for the services of former St. Louis receiver Torry Holt.

The Titans are expected to welcome the veteran receiver this week, according to the Tennessean. Holt was released earlier this month after 10 years in St. Louis, where he won two NFC championships and a Super Bowl title.

The Titans are looking to beef up their receiving corps after signing former Steelers receiver Nate Washington to a six-year, $27 million deal earlier this offseason.

I think he's better off production wise going somewhere where he would be the WR2. He will fare better matching up against a teams second CB and won't draw as much coverage over the top. He will probably end up in Tennessee or Jax, as they will pay him WR1 money.

I think Holt will probably go to Jacksonville, Tennessee, or Chicago in the end. He would gain quite a bit of fantasy value going to Chicago, but I'm not sure if they have the cap space to pay him 7+million a year for 2 years.

I believe they do. But I am not absolutely sure he's still worth it. I know that's blasphemy, but I'm not sure how much Holt has left. He's the best that's currently ACTUALLY on the market, and that raises his price, obviously... but there are other ways to go. Still, I guess I'd love to see it, comparing against what we've seen lately in Chicago.

With the release of Burress, if I'm Torry Holt I'm calling up New York and telling them I want a visit. That's probably the biggest market, with the best situation for a WR that you could possibly hope for. That's the big stage for "big game" to raise his value over the next year or two and extend his career possibly for another 4 or 5 years if he still has some gas left in the tank.
