So the USA was mercy-ruled against Puerto Rico, 11-1 after 7 innings. Wow. 2 things: 1) Given that they are a U.S. territory, did they have to beat up on us that bad? 2) There must be a lot of talent on such a little island.
Meh. I guess we'll always have football (not futbol).

In response to your first point, they sure as heck should have beaten up on us every bit as well as they can. You're playing for the pride of your own country, not one that you're associated with. Good for them.
That being said, it's double elimination, so lets not cast the U.S. out just yet.

I know. We should take away their self-governance.
That's what I'm saying steelerfan! You're a true patriot!
I think we could pretty easily place a siege around their island - nobody in or out, no imports/exports; 2 years of that and they won't have anymore bats and then they won't be able to practice and then they won't beat us anymore. That's my plan!
As for double-elimination, I read that we are in the loser's bracket, so no shot at 1st place.

Meh, I think the WBC is a lousy idea, but that's just me. I wouldn't want to see any of my favorite team's players logging in unnecessary AB or IP, which will come back to bite them in the league.

That's not what a loser's bracket means. Any team that hasn't lost twice still have a shot at 1st place. Losers bracket does not equal consolation bracket.
I'm not sure I would stop my guys from going. I remember when Vernon Wells played in 06 he had the best start of his career and it was attributed to having meaningful atbats the WBC. I think its a pretty cool idea honestly.

Gotcha!
