KC's RB situation opinions

Postby Hoosier Smurf » Sun Mar 15, 2009 1:45 pm

What does anyone think is going to happen in KC with RB's. Is Larry Johnson still the man or is J. Charles or K. Smith taking over. I am just trying to figure where Johnson lands in my own RB rankings. Thanks for your opinions!!!!!

I don't like LJ, don't think he has much left in those legs, and he's a cancer so it's going to be sooner then later that he ends up in the dog house with Haley and Pioli, two guys who don't tolerate those types of players...He's done nothing but complain about how he wants out, on top of not performing and getting into trouble off the field, I don't see them being in a big hurry to get him in the mix.

I think they take a Rb somewhere in the 4th-6th round that they think may go well with Charles like James Davis, but for now the only guy I really like to emerge as is Jamaal Charles, but if their not giving him 20 touches a game he's going to be just like Jerious Norwood or Leon Washington, a spot play with the chance of hitting it big with some big plays...Charles is clearly talented and the team was looking to get him the ball in space last year, he's got good vision and he will break some long runs off time to time but he's got to add some bulk to his frame if he wants his role to increase any.

He's not as thick as a Felix Jones of Chris Johnson, and running inside he gets swallowed up, but used correctly he should become a very talented weapon for them...I just don't see LJ splitting carries and being happy about it, or being quiet about it, so even if he starts the season I don't see him as an option you can trust.

Kolby Smith is serviceable if LJ isn't around, but I think they would prefer to draft a RB and bring in fresh blood at the position, but if for some reason they don't he'll get the dirty work but I was never really impressed with him.

Very well written analysis by LS2. I like Charles alot but I have to agree with LS2 and say that Charles is liekly not an every down back. Kolby and Charles together may make it interesting for both. I would expect if that were to happen that they each average around 12-15 touches per game making them RB3 material.

I have a feeling that we may see LJ getting traded on draft day. Or, he may get cut after June 1st. He clearly dosen't want to be in KC and I can't see the new regime putting up with a cancer who will be turning 30 this year.

If LJ is cut, I would expect J. Charles to take over the starting role. But, I fully expect a RBBC. The Chiefs will probably pick up a Rb in the draft.
