I just traded Marion Barber for Clinton Portis in a keeper league. Each year we get to carry over a 1 player from the year before and get to hang onto a certain player for a max of 3 years. Although Barber is younger, I didn't feel that he is going to be the Bell Cow I wanted in this upcoming year. Portis is older but still has a good few years left in the tank. We get 1 pt every 10 yards rushing/receiving and 6 pts per TD.
I have the 6th pick this year and plan on taking another young back like Forte or Slaton if they are still there.
Good trade???

I like the trade and at #6 you should be able to get a good young RB.

Good trade imo - have heard talks of Barber going back to endgame work with emergence of Choice and Jones being healthy again

I feel the trade is a wash, MBIII shares carries with Jones and Choice where Portis gets little time off but is older. Jones in Dallas will have to stay healthy AND Choice will have to continue building off last year for it to take away from MBIII and that isnt likely to happen IMO and Portis is well........... Portis, one of the only HB's to not really have someone they share alot of carries with.

I disagree with everyone! I think Clinton Portis will have a hard time staying healthy this year and i am not buying into the MB3 dropping off in production. I would of held on too Barber.

I agree with you 100%
I have been telling everyone that will listen that the end is near for Portis. I would trade him now in any keeper or dynasty leagues. I said the same thing about LT before last season and now look at his trade value. I do not see Portis making through the season healthy and I think he will lose carries to Ladell Betts. It also wouldn't shock me if the Skins took a Rb in the first 3 rounds.

thanks to Franchise Fan for the sig!!!!!

I totally hear what you guys are saying, however Portis is not the long term solution for me by any means. I think he still has enough in the tank to have a 1200 yard 10 TD season and I can hopefully find a young runner for my keeper for the 2010 season. I like Barber too, but with the toe injury, and with the now crowded backfield with Felix Jones and Tashard Choice, Barber could find himself on sidelines more than fantasy owners would like to see. There was even talk last training camp in Dallas that Barber could assume some fullback duties. All of that simply scared me away from Barber. With Portis, I know what I am getting. Besides getting dinged up a bit throughout the season(who doesn't?) I know he is a lock for 20 carries a game and either 100 yards rushing or a TD each week. Plus his contract is up after the 2009 year and he is going to want to keep his worth with the team. (Just a little more motivation for an aging veteran)
