The NFL network's Charley Casserly's latest mock draft has Beanie Wells going to SEA at 4. If that were to come to fruition, I would rather keep the 1.01 and select Beanie.
But obviously it depends on what happens in the draft, and who goes where.
Well, that is the crux of it my man. There is no deadline except the risk factor of the draft. Wells and Moreno go to say a Seattle and Concy... well good times for me as I made the right choice of keeping the pick. Wells and Moreno got to San Diego and Philly, my guess is that the offers get pulled. Thus my conundrum.
Fair enough.
Then let's look at it this way.... with the "mystery" and "allure" of the 1.01 pick, I would be very choosy about trading it away. In other words, knock my socks off with a deal, especially BEFORE the NFL draft. Westy et al straight up for the 1.01 doesn't cut it... and it doesn't knock your socks off either if you are here inquiring about it.
So... as-is, I would pass on any of these deals. While I agree there is no AP in this class, there are several backs (Wells, Moreno, Brown, McCoy) that have the talent to be better than your potential trades, depending on who drafts them.
Well INdi, you got me thinking. I am sending out fellers for a couple of players I am interested in but revisiting one of the current offers I am thinking of countering
1.01, 2.12
for
Barber and 1.06
I may need to throw something else in there, maybe a 2009 2nd?

I have a few issues with this.
I know some people are high on Barber for 2009... I am not really one of those people. At this point in time, talk in DAL is a reduced workload for Barber. They want him to be the "closer" -- which is a role I agree he excels at. But that means reduced carries... and I think most are going to go to Felix and not as much to Choice as some would believe. In addition, I have some questions on how TO's departure will affect the DAL playcalling. Can Williams step up and be a true WR1?
My 2nd issue is with the 1.06 pick. At this point in time, I see 4 RBs that can be legit high picks (see my earlier post). And most people love Crabtree (I personally don't). So there are your first 5 likeliest picks in your rookie draft. Who is left at 1.06?? Sanchez/Stafford? A WR? A surprise RB? Before the NFL draft, I see a HUGE dropoff between 5 and 6 in a rookie draft.
I go back to my earlier point of the "allure" of the 1.01 pick. I think you can do better. I would still want a 1.05 or better pick plus a legit RB1 to trade out of that spot.

He doesn't have that 1.06 to give up anymore
You know I personally like Barber, but I wouldn't give up the 1st pick for him if I were you, he may have 2 years left of double digit TD's, and that 2nd year is still a maybe...Wade Phillips said he wants all 3 backs involved which isn't good for Barber if Choice is in the mix, he's going to dip into his touches too much to be worth that pick.
Have you tried Marshawn Lynch? I'd be much more comfortable going after someone like him...The Barber owner doesn't have any 1st or 2nd rd picks left unless he goes 2010 picks, and honestly I think you'll get a few better offers once a few more owners show up.
If you would be interested in Mendenhall shoot me a pm I may be willing to move him in the right deal.

Not exactly discreet am I. That is the only issue I have with the cafe, when I actually get stumped I don't really have anywhere to ask the question as in just about every league, my opponents are cafe members.
Well good thing is we probably can't trade anymore this off-season, but you don't have 2 pay too much attn to me just throwing out another opinion for you to think over There has been a few trades I've made guys asked about here 1st, if I know it directly involves me I'll try and not be nosey, but at this point majority of our league isn't around on the cafe(aside from me, you & aaawall).
But being that it's the 1st pick, you really control what you want to do with it at this point, so talking about it doesn't matter, even if you do tip your hand nobody can anything in the draft until you decide...I just think you have a really good team, best one in the league, so I'd want to see you get some good value for that pick and I don't see it with TJ, Westy or Barber...Ronnie Brown level is what I'd shoot for, or an idea like the one you had, moving back to somewhere in the middle of the 1st, or in the top half, and getting a young rb in return.

Well without seeing your roster, but if your only need is rb2 then the value of 1.1 depends on the NFL draft. Too me the best player coming out of this draft is Crabtree and the rb's value will largely depend on the team drafting them. Last year the top rb went to Oakland and between a bad team and injury he didn't have a great year. I still wouldn't trade the 1.1 for T. Jones, he is older and has no proven qb to help take the pressure off of him. Now for MBIII I think I may, because I can see him going back to his J.Jones style, still getting 15-20 touches, goal line carries and have a productive season. Westbrooke is sticky for me, if healthy he is a top rb, but that hasn't happened in many years. His other problem is the o-line, who are they going to have at there tackles? Not too mention that he also is getting to, or at the dreaded age of 30. So with all of that too me alot depends on the NFL draft, who goes where and are there any trades made before hand. I would not trade the 1.1 for T.Jones, MBIII I most likely would, Westy would all depend on the draft and I would want something else for the pick along with Westy. If you keep the pick I think I would have to go with Crabtree, too me he is the most sure pick coming out of this years draft. Good luck.
I would only do the trade for MB3 even in a time share with Jones he was a RB2 and that will be his value this year as well. The other rookies you don't know about and can be hindered by where they go in the draft. All in all you win either way in my opinion.
IMO, the only guy I would take with the 1.01 pick is Crabtree. I'd probably take him even if I was loaded at WR and needed a RB3. You can probably take Crabtree and then trade some of your WR depth for someone like Kevin Smith while also taking a RB with your 1.11 pick.
