Who to pick with the #6 pick?

Postby Minnesota Guy » Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:05 pm

I am in a 10 man keeper league which we get to carry over 1 player from the year before. I have Portis as my current keeper. I have the 6th pick this year. I am projecting the following people to be left on the board when I pick. (Remember its technically like the 2nd round since we have the 1 keeper)

RB - Jacobs, Slaton, Addai

WR - Moss, Calvin, Andre

Should I go WR or RB. I really want to land a safe bet with my first pick and Jacobs and Slaton scare me for some reason. I think its because they aren't totally proven yet. Plus I would love to land two top wideouts like Moss(6th) and Wayne(15th pick) and hope a proven veteran lands to me in the 3rd round.

What are your guys thoughts?

I would take a chance with Moss. Tremendous upside. Then go for a RB before a 2nd WR. 2-3 WR's per team vs 1-2 rb's per team. RB depth is crucial.

Yeah, I really like Randy this year. I had him the last two years now and I have to say having him with Brady back on the field is lethal. He said he is excited about Brady's return so their is a lot to like with him. About the #2 back in the next round I just don't know who will be available there. More than likely guys like, Addai, T. Jones, P. Thomas, R. Brown etc... but I think all of them except for Addai will slide even one more round thats why I was thinking of locking up another solid pass catcher like Wayne, S. Smith or Jennings. What are your thoughts on that?

I got screwed by Addai last year so I'm biased. The other 3 backs mentioned would make a solid tandem to go with Portis.
R Brown showed he is back if only he can get more or the share instead of splitting with Ricky.

Pierre is a bit risky because of Bush but also to consider is Duece being gone. PT proved he is the real deal last year the key is the number of carries.

TJones was a solid option last year and appears in pretty much the same position except one key factor....Favre. Maybe with Favre gone they rely on him more. Or maybe they stall more drives because of Favre being gone. Time will tell.

But I would definately take a 2nd RB over a WR at that point unless you are in a PPR. I don't think those Rb's will be available a round later except maybe Addai.

Moss or Andre Johnson are pretty safe picks -- I'd personally favor Andre Johnson because of his age since it's a keeper league.

I agree that Jacobs & Slaton are scary picks, and I am unsure about Addai after his disappointing year in 2008.

Go with Andre Johnson, considering it's like the 2nd round, and Johnson goes anywhere from 12th-20th overall in most seasonal mock drafts right now.

I think this is a difficult decision because of where you're drafting. I'm going to assume that 6-9 of the keepers are already RBs, so almost all of the big names are off the board. With 15 players off the board when you draft, you have to consider who will be available when you pick in the next round. At that point, around 18-20 RBs will probably be gone and you'll end up with someone you like even less than the guys you just mentioned. If you take a RB with the 6th pick, there will still be good depth at QB and WR when your pick comes around again. The same cannot be said for RBs.

I think, in your position, you have to draft a RB as long as there's one decent one left in the bunch, even if a top WR is still available.

Either way, good luck.

Any one of those WR's are a pretty safe bet. All three should have great years.

Moss
AJ
CJ2

in that order. I'd say go youth it being a keeper league but seeing you only keep one chances are your going to keep a top RB anyways

and its not like Portis is mr. safe he's getting up there in age himself for RB years concerned. RB years are like Dog Years. 7 years in one career = 1 year of another. Its sad but true.
