I'm in a keeper league where you can keep one player per position. I have been getting a lot of interest for the Steelers with offers a 4th and 5th round pick in exchange. I also have the Redskins who just added a bunch of guys. Should I consider any of these offers for the steelers or are they too good to trade?
It may depend on the scoring, but personally, I don't think any Defense is a keeper - now I know each of your teams are required to keep one, but I would make the trade. You can always play the WW for the season (we have some pretty good threads throughout the season to help). If you can pick up some extra picks that may pan out, I'd say go for it
Trade them now for the 4th rd pick and keep the Skins. Once I got into fantasy and knew what I was doing I would never draft a defense until very late and my last pick was always saved for a kicker. Look at most drafts and you can get a quality player at that pick for a defense, take this offer before it is too late.
I agree with the others, I would make the trade and get the extra picks. You give up a very good D but between the Redskins and the waiver wire, you can be very competitive throughout the season. Good luck.
I disagree, If your league is set up in a typical yahoo format then a defense like the Steelers or Ravens are a defense that can put up a lot of points and make the difference between winning or losing. Last year the Ravens were averaging 25-30pts per game for me towards the end of the year during crunch time. I won my second championship in as many years and the Ravens were key to winning it as were the Bears the previous year. Now in my other dynasty league in which we will be celebrating our 20th year anniversary, defense is not worth much and I would not draft one until the final rounds of the draft.
So what I'm getting at (as was mentioned in a post above) is that it depends on your scoring format. Defense can be the most underated position on a team yet at the end of the year one of the most productive. If your league is set up in yahoo go back to the previous years through the archives and see what production defenses have had in the past. If it's anything like my yahoo league in the past 5 years I've learned that a great defense can put up big numbers and be the key to putting you over the top. Having a top defense gives you an extra edge that can come in handy from time to time.

It has been proven time and time again that if you know what you're doing with playing matchups, you can score as much or more than some of the top defenses over a course of the season if you just stuck with one team. Even as a Steelers fan I think you pull the trigger on this if you can get some solid draft picks for it...the Skins will be decent on defense and you can pick up another one along the way if you have to.

Again it depends on the situation. I'm in a league with 14 owners with each franchise owning 2 defenses each. How do you play match ups with only 4 defenses on the waiver wire. I agree that you can get by on match ups but myself I prefer to have studs at each position and sticking with them week in and week out.

Even if that never-would-happen scenario of 14 owners all holding onto two defenses were to happen in this league, he still has the Redskins to start each week.

Accept the trade.
Agreed...if you always thought that everyone in your league would do the worst thing possible once you made a trade then you would hardly ever make a deal that helps your team. Gotta take some risks sometimes but even this is one that can hardly be considered even a moderate risk.
