Need some help with my auction keepers

Postby SteelerBlitz » Thu Apr 09, 2009 10:09 pm

Keeper auction league with a salary cap of $190. I can keep 4 and have one ristricted that I will have rights to whatever the final bidding price is. Standard scoring non PPR. My roster is...

P. Manning $67
M. Schaub $7
M. Lynch $30
R. Mendenhall $24
C. Portis $28
P. Thomas $12
B. Edwards $11
S. Holmes $10
A. Johnson $32

Who should I keep?

Portis at $28 and AJ at $32 are no-brainers.

Manning is quite expensive at $67 -- unless you start 2 QBs I would release him.

When I am selecting these keepers, I want the best combination of talent, opportunity, and cost. Pierre Thomas is a pretty good value for $12 -- he could be a nice option as a RB3.

Your fourth is a toughie.... I would pick Holmes at $10. Schaub for $7 sounds like a pretty good value too, especially in comparison to the price for Manning.

That leaves you with $108... take some of that money you saved and invest in a high-upside RB2, a high-upside WR2/WR3, and a 2nd-tier QB, and you have yourself a decent starting squad.

For my franchise tag, I would select Lynch. I think Lynch's suspension will certainly hurt his auction price... you may be able to get a bit of a deal for a guy that can help you down the stretch.

Explain your league's franchise agreement/policies with me. That can vary. That will go a long way in determining keepers. You have some nice value there.

I'd keep Portis, Schaub, Holmes, Edwards.
and then franchise Andre Johnson, (If I'm understanding this correctly). You'd have rights? Compensation.

I don't get that.

Explain please.

See if you franchise Andre you might be able to get him back at a cheaper price. Generally you franchise an expensive, but invaluable player and either two things happen A) you lose him but have a ton of money to replace him with a cheaper but equally good top 10 option and gain money/picks by losing him or B) you get him back and you've got some great value keepers to fill up your roster with a stud TE, and RB depth.

Basically if I franchised Andre he would go on the block and bidding would begin. I'm certain he would bid for more than what I'm currently paying. I then have a choice to keep him at the final bidding price or let him go to the highest bidder. IMO by best franchise player is either Lynch or Mendenhall. I want to keep Andre since he is my clear #1 receiver. I also think Pierre Thomas will have a great year and is a good value for me.

Any other opinions?

Need some more help here... My keepers are A. Johnson, Portis, and P. Thomas if no other running backs go to the Saints. So that leaves my fourth between Schaub, Holmes, or Edwards. If Edwards goes to NY I'm going to have to play that out. My restricted obviously depends on my fourth selection but could also include Manning or Mendenhall. Need some suggestions WHIR.

Obviously Portis/AJ are your 2 guarantees...that's not too expensive for two players of their caliber. To me, it's awfully hard to pass up Edwards/Holmes for just $22 total and I think you gotta keep those 2 guys. There's not a chance in the world that the Saints DON'T take another RB in this draft so I don't think you're going to want to end up keeping Thomas, you can probably get him back for cheaper than that anyway.

I would probably keep Portis, AJ, Edwards, and Holmes and franchise Manning to see if you can land him for cheaper than the $67 you have him at now.

Well, all the indications were that they would and pretty much all teams tend to take at least 1 RB in each draft so it wasn't really a crazy thing to say. Pierre Thomas does get a bump to his value though...how long till you have to decide?

With my rookie draft I picked up Moreno to add to the mix. This means that I have a chance to keep him as my restricted player and whatever price he goes for in the draft I have rights to him at that price. Anybody think I should restrict Moreno and see what happens in Denver this year?
