yeah its unbelieveable countries are capturing these guys and then letting them go...crapola in my book! Until they are held accountable this piracy will continue...quite a ballsy move on our part to take the three out but it at least sent a message we won't stand for it.

Honestly, I think these guys should have been thrown overboard with a cinder-block tied to their legs.

Send those pirates to Davey Jones' locker, huh? "Tonight, Lou Caprazzi sleeps with the fishes."
Anyway - it sucks they had to let them go, but I'm surprised at the intervention in the first place. By charter, UN troops are not warfighters. There are UN troops in several places around the world (especially in Africa) who witness genocide and other atrocious crimes every day and aren't authorized to intervene.

Italian cruise ship fends off pirate attack off Somalia with gunfire Sun Apr 26, 2:30 PM By Nicole Winfield, The Associated Press
ROME - An Italian cruise ship with 1,500 people on board fended off a pirate attack far off the coast of Somalia when its Israeli private security forces exchanged fire with the bandits.
Six men in a small, white Zodiac-type boat approached the Msc Melody on Saturday and opened fire with automatic weapons, Msc Cruises director Domenico Pellegrino said. They retreated after the security officers returned fire and sprayed them with water hoses. The ship continued its journey with its windows darkened.
"It felt like we were in war," the ships commander, Ciro Pinto, told Italian state radio.
None of the roughly 1,000 passengers and 500 crew members was hurt, Pellegrino said. The passengers were asked to return to their cabins and the external lights on board turned off.
Pellegrino said all Msc cruise ships around the world are staffed with Israeli security agents because they are the best trained.
Pirate 1: "Hey, let's go attack that fishing trawler." Pirate 2: "NO! Let's go attack that warship!"
I believe the pirates are a little short-staffed in the intellect department.
The USS Nicholas is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate for those of you who care about such things.
The USS Nicholas reported taking fire from a suspected pirate skiff shortly after midnight local time west of the Seychelles, the statement said. The Nicholas quickly returned fire and began pursuing the skiff, which was eventually disabled. A boarding team from the Nicholas subsequently captured and detained three people, the statement said.
Well, I agree that we shouldn't be policing other countries, but if a ship wants protection then they can hire some. I am complete fail on the pirates side. Even as more Navy ships, including the guided-missile frigate USS Halyburton, arrive near the Horn of Africa, there will be fewer than two dozen international warships patrolling an area nearly five times the size of Texas.
Now they have seized a Russian-operated oil tanker.
Pirate 1: "Let's piss off the Russians next!" Pirate 2: "Yes! They would never use force to handle a situation."
Let's hope the warship being sent turns the pirates into crab food.
Pirates in the Gulf of Aden Wednesday seized a Russian-operated oil tanker with a crew of 23 that had been on its way to China, the European Union naval force said.
The Liberian-flagged oil tanker Moscow University was hijacked Wednesday morning, the naval force, EU NAVFOR, said. A Russian warship was heading toward the position where the ship was hijacked, EU NAVFOR said.
