Your top 5 rookies for dynasties

Postby dan9124 » Sat Apr 25, 2009 10:35 pm

Not sure if it's just me but I'm really not that impressed with the skill players from rounds 1 and 2. I think there are some great players to be sure, but the places most of them ended up just aren't that great in my opinion. That said, who are you hoping to draft in your dynasty drafts later this spring?

1. Michael Crabtree, 49ers. Virtually no competition from other WRs. Could learn a thing or two from Bruce if he sticks around. Questionable QB play. So glad he didn't go to waste away in oakland.
2. Kenny Britt, Titans. Going to a very good team. Hopefully he can pull a Chris Johnson and have a great rookie year.
3. Mark Sanchez, Jets. I think he may be this year's Matt Ryan. Not flashy but has all the intangibles. If your dynasty team needs QB help (like mine does), I think Sanchez may be the safer pick over Stafford.
4. Knowshon Moreno, Broncos. McDaniels runs a franchise QB out of town so you have to think the run game will carry the team next year. He may not start but he should get plenty of carries. Great ability to make people miss and also can run people over when needed. Lack of speed may be a concern.
5. Percy Harvin, Vikings. I don't know how they're going to use him, but I would take a chance on him anyway. Minnesota has Peterson, then a few so-so WRs so you have to like Harvin's chances.

Beanie Wells will be a good one as well. Tough competition with both Edge and Hightower though. I wish Maclin has gone somewhere else besides Philly. He and DeSean Jackson are going to make for a confusing situation as far as fantasy numbers go. Speaking of the Eagles, McCoy could be a good investment for when Westbrook runs out of gas, whenever that may be.

What does everyone else think of this year's day 1 class? Your top 5?

1) Crabtree - for the reasons already stated
2) Wells - I think this spells the end for Edge in Zona and I don' think Hightower is a threat other than goal line.
3) Moreno - He shuld get more than 50% of the carries. Just not certain if RB means the same in Denver anymore.
4) Harvin - A wildcard but an intriguing one. I didn't like the pick with Oher sitting there but the way the NFLN guys talked it made me feel better about it. PErfect world, the guy gets 10-12 td's next year. Normal world, he is the moron that alot of people think he is and does my team no good.
5) Britt - Not like he has to much competition there. Should be a week 1 starter.

The QB's...

Stafford - Yeah, big arm but 3 year QB's have very little success at the NFL level. Buyer beware.
Sanchez - Yeah big arm... 16 starts.... recipe for disaster. Guys are picking DHB as the first round bust... Sanchez is my pick.
Freeman - Sizeable reach for TB. The QB carousel continues for them.

I am fairly certain even though I need a QB in 2 dynasties I will not be touching any of these 3 in the first 20 picks.

Bungle....I Agree The Harvin pick by the Vikes is a mistake......Oher was the pick and this regime screwed it up again!! bring that attitude...between him and hutch..the line could have dominated.......

1st round WR's are the biggest waste of money........UUUUGH!!!!!

The Vikings got a real mauler in Loadholt though. He cannot pass protect worth a lick, but the guy is an absolutely dominant run blocker. He is probably an instant upgrade over Hicks.

I like the Harvin pick. The guy has Steve Smith speed with a stronger body. The Vikings have by far the most explosive offense in the league now. Berrian on the outside, Harvin in the slot, and ADP behind center. I like Rosenfels to throw for at least 20+ TDs this year believe it or not.

My top 10 dynasty picks:
1) Crabtree
2) Moreno
3) Wells
4) Harvin
5) Donald Brown
6) Jeremy Maclin
7) Hakeem Nicks
8) LeSean McCoy
9) Matt Stafford
10) Kenny Britt

FWIW, I think Sanchez is going to be a bust. I also don't like DHB's chances of doing much, but I would still take him with the 11th or 12th overall dynasty picks.

I think that as far as busts go DHB will be the biggest bust of them all, they really screwed up here, they could have traded down, added picks and still drafted him,Oakland is in trouble for a few more years. Of the draft picks I really like Beanie Wells in Arizona, they still have a potent passing attack and now teams will have to respect the run with him in the backfield. I think two other rb's could have very good careers, Brown and McCoy, just not very soon.
The Brown draft pick did baffle me somewhat, does this mean that they don't have any faith in Addai or they are going to a RBBC in Indy?
1- Crabtree- huge upside, good running game, top player in this draft, should have immediate impact
2- Wells- should make the most immediate impact, Edge will most likely be cut now
3- Moreno- McDaniels will have to use him to justify the pick, plus alot of pressure is taken off with the passing game
4- Harvin- great running game in Minny, alot of versatility and should get alot of touches
5-Green- T.Jones is older, Washington isn't a everydown back, good o-line and could be the featured back in 10'

QB's
Stafford- has the rb, wr and te, not just needs a o-line so he isn't the second coming of Carr
Schanez- from the USC factory, only 16 starts, but couldn't beat out Booty the year before, hhhmmmm
Freeman- is a project for a year or two from now, they need another receiving threat for him, or any qb there

Others-
Brown - depends on what happens with Addai, good player, but how much play time will he get
DHB- OAK can't sit back like the 70's and wait to throw the ball 60yards downfileld, big bust
McCoy- Westy isn't getting any younger, great handcuff, could take over in 10' or 11
Tate- NE must see something in him, will take a few years, could be better than Nicks

Another guy to consider now at RB is Rashad Jennings in Jacksonville. He will probably beat Chauncey Washington for the #2 job and play backup to MJD. As a run first team, he will probably get 5 carries a game even if MJD is healthy.

Wells

Moreno

Crabtree

Brown
Shady

Green
Harvin
DHB
Sanchez
Macklin

Don't sleep too much on DHB... I know its "The Raidehs", and they picked him too early, and Al Davis is loony.... BUT...Russell has a CANNON. And DHB is instantly one of the 10 fastest players in the NFL -- just tell Russell to throw it as far as he can and let DHB go track it down. If you are in a league that awards bonus points for length of TD, I could see DHB putting up a few big games each year.

I also like Sanchez as a Jet. He has a young, decent OL; he has a decent WR1 in Cotchery, and a young developing TE in Keller. He also has the "moxie" to handle the NY media and fans -- he exudes confidence and leadership. So I can see Sanchez as a decent QB2 option in a few years, with a chance to become a high-end QB1... but probably not before 2011 or 2012.

Overall, I think this class will be have a lesser immediate impact than last year's class. There are also a lot more questions and concerns about the top players. Wells will be a starter and could be a special RB if given enough carries (he is the type of RB that needs 15-20 carries to get it all going); Moreno is a huge favorite to be featured (although there are a lot of RBs in Denver... Moreno may not get the TD carries or the 3rd down job); Crabtree is the #1 WR in SF by default -- but who's going to throw it to him?
