I've seen a bunch of topics about ranking rookies for specific teams, or ranking the top rookie RBs, WR etc. but I would love to start a general ranking of the incoming NFL rookies. Here's what I've got so far. Feel free to add on to the list (I'd love to get a list of a few dozen players going) or complain about the way I have them ranked. I'd also like to include IDPs, since my dynasty league is an IDP league, lol.
1. Chris Wells 2. Knowsean Moreno 3. Michael Crabtree 4. Donald Brown 5. LeSean McCoy 6. Percy Harvin 7. Shonn Greene 8. Jeremy Maclin 9. Darrius Heyward-Bey 10. Aaron Curry
I know most people have Moreno ahead of Wells, but if you look at NE last year, they didn't really have a feature back. Now with McDaniels in Denver and the Broncos signing Arrington and Buckhalter I'm afraid that Moreno might not get a ton of carries.
I included Curry as my number 10 because he's got a good chance to start right away, and even though he isn't an offensive guy, he's still quite possibly the most talented player coming out of the draft.
What do you guys think about my top ten? How would you guys rank 11-20, or maybe even beyond?
Alright, first the list- Moreno Brown Crabtree Wells ---End Tier 1--- Nicks S. Green McCoy Maclin ---End Tier 2--- Stafford Britt Andre Brown, NYG Harvin Sanchez J. Davis Coffee Pettigrew ---End Tier 3--- Jarrett Dilliard, Jax Gartrell Johnson, SD Brian Robiskie, Cle Shawn Nelson, Buf Cedric Peerman, Bal Cornelius Ingram, Phi ---End Tier 4--- Chase Coffman, Cin Heyward-Bey Juaquin Iglesias, Chi Mike Thomas, Jax Ramses Barden, NYG Johnny Knox, Chi Mohamed Massaquoi, Cle ---End Tier 5--- Javon Ringer, Ten Austin Collie, Ind Patrick Turner, Mia Jared Cook, Ten Rashad Jennings, Jax ---End Tier 6--- Brandon Tate, NE Derrick Williams, Det Brooks Foster, StL Brian Hartline, Mia Mike Wallace, Pit
Second, before I put any IDPs in, I'd need to know your defensive scoring- some leagues I've been in have been wildly different. Third- The NE system, for lack of a better term, is adaptable. It can be a vertical-pass (Brady to Moss) or more of a dink-dunk (Cassel to Faulk/Morris). Belichek adjusts the scheme to personnel. If McDaniels has learned anything, they'll go light on the passing game and pound the rock, depending on how many of theose Den RBs escape training camp. Moreno is a good 3rd down back (blocker/receiver) and with the retention of the o-line coach/scheme, is perfectly positioned on a zone-blocking team. Heyward-Bey was over-drafted by Oakland- he's a track star with no hands.
Defensive Players Blocked Punt or FG return for TD 6 Each Interception 2.5 Each Fumble Recovered 1 Blocked Punt, PAT or FG 3 Each Safety 4.5 Each Sack 1.5 Interception Return TD 6 Fumble Return TD 6 Each Fumble Forced 1.5 Every Assisted Tackle 0.5 Every Solo Tackle 1 Passes Defensed 1.5
I understand what you're saying about Moreno, I just think that you're gonna have a lot of guys with their hands on the ball. In Arizona, Wells is pretty much the RB1 unless he blows it.
Yeah, the Raiders reached just a little bit for Heyward-Bey, but he's probably got an inside track on a starting job this year, right? Just the explosive potential has me ranking him higher than Nicks, Britt (two guys I really like, by the way), and Pettigrew. Pettigrew is aguy that was as highly ranked coming out of college as he was mostly because of his blocking ability. If he couldn't block the way he does, do you think he'd be a first round pick based on his ability as a receiver alone? That's all that really matter fantasy-wise. Plus he's going to have a rookie QB who'll probably be looking at Megatron a hell of a lot more than whoever's at TE.
Just my $.02
Anyway, thanks a lot for the input. It's great to see somebody with a real deep list.

I'll spare the long list because Kareigheis pretty much covered it and mines isn't too far off...But I have to disagree here, Moreno won't be sharing the ball with alot of guys most likely, there is alot of crap and filler on that team but talent makes you brush those guys to the way side, JJ Arington, Lamont Jordan, those guys are scrubs compared to Moreno, taking him at #12 when you need defense tells people that they intend on using him and giving him 20 carries a game with a few receptions, that's more then enough.
My list would look like this:
1. Donald Brown 2. Moreno 3. Beanie Wells 4. Michael Crabtree 5. Lesean McCoy 6. Shonn Greene 7. Andre Brown 8. Percy Harvin 9. Hakeem Nicks 10. Jeremy Maclin
Since your in an IDP league, Curry will go very high, probably too high, tackle heavy or not the mistake I constantly see is people overdrafting defensive players, happens every year...I'm in an IDP dynasty league, and having guys like Suggs, Ed Reed, David Harris on D doesn't make a difference, because you go and look at another team who has nobodies who just happen rack up tackles because their D sucks, or their is no one else, and their point totals are rarely far off.
I'd target Mualuaga, he'll do well with Cincy and you can have him way later then Curry, from there look at Laurinitis, Rams don't have much at LB and he should be able to roam free...Huge sleeper is Cushings, he won't be drafted as high as some of the others probably, and he's got incredible range, and loves to hit, I can easily see him racking up plenty of tackles...Didn't rank those guys because I'd just start to target some guys later once you got some skill positions.
Hope that helps.

Agree here 100%...I'm glad someone other than myself has Brown and Moreno as the top 2 picks and not Moreno/Wells.
I'd probably target Laurinitis and Maualuga as well at LB as both should put up nice rookie numbers since they both project to play MLB for their respective teams. The other USC LBs are good bets for picks later on as well with Cushing and Matthews and the safety Delmas taken by Detroit could be worth a solid look as well. Good safeties on bad defenses tend to rack up the tackles.
