WR DJ Boldin signed by the Lions

Postby madaslives911 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 10:51 am

WR Anquan Boldin's younger brother, D.J. Boldin of Wake Forest, signed a contract with the Detroit Lions.

... the Lions have made a few more roster moves, although in all honesty none of them are terribly exciting. They've signed a few free agent rookies, most notably D.J. Boldin, brother of Anquan Boldin. Of course, D.J. doesn't quite have the talent of his brother, but there's a slim chance he could get the last receiver spot on the team if he impresses. The Lions also signed Ball State center Dan Gerberry, UAB kicker/punter Swayze Waters, and Northwestern defensive tackle John Gill. Gerberry and Gill both play positions where the Lions could potentially use a depth player, but the chances of them making the team probably aren't terribly good. As for Waters, considering the fact the Lions have both Jason Hanson and Nick Harris, unless he has a big leg and could potentially be a kickoff specialist, he has no chance of making the team. Which is a shame, because having somebody named Swayze Waters on the Lions would be awesome.

Boldin has an interesting skill set, big, physical guy like his brother, not very polished and he supposedly had some attitude problems...He could be a late bloomer and develop into a solid NFL WR, but it will be a few years down the road so he'll have to suck it up and be a scrappy ST guy at first.

When I saw him play, the one thing that stood out is that he was great with the ball in his hands and running after the catch just like Q, but his route running was sloppy and he's not very explosive.

Sadly I think this is a sign of the Lions doing as much scouting on him as I did. "Hmm, I don't know him, but his name sounds familiar."

If your info is right, Throwed, maybe he has a future as a third down TE.
