Steve Slaton?

Postby Minnesota Guy » Fri May 01, 2009 8:24 am

What are your guys' thoughts on Steve Slaton this year. I am in a league that rewards 1 pt every 10 yards rushing/receiving and 6pts per TD. I have the 6th pick in a keeper league where we carry over 1 player. My guy is Clinton Portis. Would you guys take someone like Slaton at #6 who is more than likely going to be on th board still so it would be like getting him in the mid 2nd round if you count the keepers or would you guys take a top flight receiver like Fitz, Moss or Cal Johnson?

Leave a link if you have a question yourself.

I do like Slaton, but I would take a top flight WR like Calvin or Fitz over him. I just fear the injuries will start for Slaton if the Texans don't find a bigger back to take some of the carries. Slaton dosen't have the size to handle 25 carries week in and week out.

Tough call. In a full rankings I have Slaton currently ahead of Calvin but behind Fitz and AJ. The best case scenario did happen for him in that Houston did not draft a RB and have gone on reocrd saying they expect Chris BRown to have a good year. Bodes well for Slaton.

Bottom line, I would take Fitz over Slaton and I would flip a coin on AJ and Calvin but would probably still take Slaton over them with Portis as my keeper.

Your #6 overall pick shakes out as (in a 10 team league) a de-facto 16th pick as I see it. This is likely several rungs below Slaton country - more like the Gore/Forte/Barber zone. However, if he's there YES he's worth your first pick. Your WR building can then begin with your 2nd round pick; there should be nice pickings there.
