Im in great shape but need your advice!!!

Postby captainmorganjosh » Mon May 04, 2009 9:30 pm

In our league, we keep 4 players going into the 2009 season. We are going to keep 5 players going into the 2010 season. Due to a couple of trades I made last season, I get three picks in the first round this year. I get picks 1.1, 1.8, and 1.9. I also have all my picks in rounds 2-10 (with us keeping 4 players, we have a 12 round draft, and with me getting 2 extra picks in the first round, I loose round 11 and 12 picks). I lost in the championship game last season, so my normal picks are 1.9, 2.2, 3.9, 4.2 and so on. So I technically get 4 of the first 12 picks this year.

This is my list of potential keepers:
QB- Jay Cutler
RB- Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, Frank Gore, Joseph Addai
WR- Roddy White, Eddie Royal, Dwayne Bowe

I'm in a PPR league. 6pts-any TD; 1pt- 25 yds passing; -1pt interception/fumble; 1pt- 10 yds rushing/receiving. We also get 1pt- 10 yds punt/kickoff returns. That's all pretty standard. This is were it gets a little different: 5pt bonus for 300 yds passing (extra 5pt bonus if 400 is reached), 5pt bonus for 100 yds rushing or receiving (extra 5pt bonus if 200 is reached) [rushing or receiving yards must be achieved seperately to get bonus]

I will most likely keep: 1) M. Forte, 2) C. Johnson, 3) Frank Gore, & 4) R. White

I think D. Bowe has a legit chance of becoming a top 10 WR this season.

Now, here is where I need advice. I know for a fact that Tom Brady will be back in the draft pool and I feel pretty certain that B. Edwards, T. Jones, and either M. Colston or J. Witten will also be in the draft pool. I went through each teams roster and tried to guess which four players would be kept. The guy who has Brady told me that he's keeping L.T., B. Westbrook, A. Johnson, & A. Boldin.

Would you snag Brady up with the 1.1 pick of the draft and try to get Bowe with 1.8? If P. Manning is available, would you take him over Brady? Do you think E. Royal will do as well with Orton as his QB? Most of his receptions were short yard dump passes. What about punt returns, will he still be doing them?

Give me some imput. Thanks.

I have Manning ranked #2 behind Brees but ahead of Brady.

Royal as far as I have heard won't be on any return duties. Colston may be my choice over Manning but that is just me, I don't draft QB's early.

I personally wouldn't take a Qb that early. I think you will be able to get a QB later on who will throw for plenty of TD's and yards like:Rodgers, Rivers or Romo. I would probably get the top WR available in your case.

I would try to trade Gore for a 1st or 2nd rounder so I can keep Bowe. You can get great value for him now, and I'm very leery that he will hit the injury wall and fall off another step into the LaMont Jordan wasteland. You will make a solid move towards youth with 2 top 15 PPR WRs just hitting their prime plus 2 great RBs who can catch.

Then I would pick Brady. You have so many early picks you can fill in your holes. Get the stud QB who you can depend on every week to be elite. This is the luxury you have afforded yourself by being so good at trading.

I think Denver is assuming they will cut ties with Marshall after this year. I think that is great news for Royal owners, and that you will see them move towards featuring him as much or more than Marshall. I would still rather have Bowe because his ceiling is so high.

1. I'd keep Forte, CJ, Roddy & Bowe.
2. Eddie Royal will likely return only kickoffs, if he returns at all - Denver can ill-afford another nagging injury to their WR2.
3. Yes, I'd grab Brady. The 300+ pa yd bonuses are worth the investment with the top pick.
4. For a return-yardage/RB3 type, my top 2 sneaky picks might be Felix Jones & Jerious Norwood.
5. If Brady owner stiffs you, it's possible the hip surgery will scare someone out of Kurt Warner. I'd take him next.
