Who to keep....

Postby uwbandjeff » Wed May 06, 2009 8:30 pm

I'm in a keeper league where we get 8 points to keep players. It costs 2 points for QB, RB or WR and 1 point for anything else. Last year we made a new rule that it costs 3 points to keep any RB past the first one. Here's what I was thinking:

Westbrook = 2 points R. Brown = 3 points Warner = 2 points Harrison or Winslow for 1 point

What do you think? I could also keep LJ and not Warner or Harrison but not sure...Here's what we start and my roster, Thanks!!

1 QB
1 RB
2 WR
1 TE
2 Off Flex
1 K
3 Ind. Def

Roster:
QB
K. Warner
B. Quinn

RB
Ronnie Brown
B. Westbrook
Larry Johnson
J. Lewis
Buckhalter
R. Williams

WR
D Henderson
D. Hester
T. Holt
M Muhomond
E Royal

TE
K Winslow

J Harrison
C. Greenway
D Jackson

WInslow, not Harrison. I think you are making the right calls otherwise.

Is there any advantage to not using all 8 points???

I am not sold on keeping Warner. I may keep Royal instead.

I agree with bungle.

or you could do some trading first as i don't really seem more than 2 players worth keeping (my honest opinion).

I don't get anything extra for not using the points so it's best to use them all and I can't trade a player unless I keep them (after the trade deadline). I was debating about Winslow over Harrison. Harrison was the highest scoring Def last year but normally people don't start picking them very early. I also have the 3rd overall pick in the draft. Thanks for the input so far!

PS. Not sure about Royal with a new QB. We do get 1 point for every 50 return yards so that's an extra 1-2 a game with him if he still does that.

PSS. I'm really up in the air about LJ. He's basicly all they have and with the new QB they could be ok.

I think you have it right with Brown, Westy, Warner, and Winslow.

For those advocating Royal over Warner: even if Warner's numbers regress 10-15%, he is still a top QB option. Royal is a 2nd option in a DEN offense with a new QB.

I would rather keep a guy that can start at QB for me than another guy that is best suited as a WR3. There will be plenty of "Eddie Royals" available in the draft.

I like your keepers, but I would definitely keep Winslow over Harrison, I can see him being a safety valve for whoever ends up being the starting qb in TB. The only other thing that I would do is with the third overall pick, look closely at the first two teams, see who they may end up keeping and who they would end up drafting ahead of you and what will be available to you at your 1.3 pick. Good luck.

I think you've got it right. While Royal is a great talent Orton is so unproven in situations with good wide receivers he's gonna need some time to mature and mesh with Royal (since Marshall is gonna wind up in jail one of these days). I'm not a fan of Warner this year, but he still has weapons. And you have to keep Winslow! With no proven quarterback in Tampa Bay they're gonna throw to him a lot.

My honest opinion:

Keep: Warner(2), Westy(2), DeShaun(2), Winslow(1). IF your league scores kick/punt return yards for individual players, I'd keep Royal(2) & redraft for my TE.

All owners will be facing this torturous math too, so chances are good of upgrading your RB2 spot through the redraft.
