My 1:5 and Colston for LT

Postby Cowboys 4 life » Sun May 10, 2009 12:17 pm

Dynasty league with normal settings for RB's and WR's. My roster below. I have been offered LT for my 1:5 and Colston. My thoughts are LT might still have it for a couple of years but he is deffinately on the downside of his career. I'm hurting badly at RB but decent at WR. My plan was to draft a Rookie RB with my first rounder but at the 1:5 you miss out on the best 3 RB's and Crabtree.

Thoughts?? As always WHIP

Re: My 1:5 and Colston for LT

I would pass. I don't think it is realistic IMHO to expect two more years from LT, at least not as a feature back. Even if he is "featured" it is highly unlikely for LT to sniff the production of his heyday.

I also say pass because you only have 1 rookie pick in the first three rounds. Your squad is good but I think you need to have one high-upside rookie to add to your squad.... if 1 of the "big 4"fall, then it's a no-brainer. Otherwise, you are looking at Greene/McCoy... I like McCoy better for the long term, and Greene a little better for this year.... so I would say McCoy.

Good luck.

I disagree completely...your team is in dire need of a 2nd solid RB to pair up with AD and this gives you that and more without having to give up a ton. LT was suffering from nagging injuries all season and STILL finished top 6 at RB in nearly every format last season...he's back healthy and there is still no legitimate bigtime threat to a lot of his carries (Sproles is decent but he's NOT LT). I think LT gives you one more big time season and at least 1-2 more solid seasons before he's done. He's been nothing but productive his whole career...even in a season most are blowing out of proportion for how bad they make it sound he still had over 1500 total yards and double digit TDs (he's never not had double digit TDs).

You have some decent WRs that can fill the void and if anything, I'd say that Colston is more of a bust candidate than LT because of how consistently he seems to get banged up. The 1.5 is outside the clear top 4 and while you could get a decent prospect, I think grabbing LT is a better way to go.

That being said, I'd see if you can swing Sproles from him or even the 1.7 or 1.12 by negotiation if you're able to and make the deal even better for you.

I misread your post a little bit the first time.... I looked at the other team's RBs and thought they were yours.... my bad.

That being said, you do indeed need a RB badly... but LT may be only a short-term bandaid. And if you make this trade as it stands, you have zero chance of drafting a young RB until next year.... and you are in the same boat as you were this year.

I would counter his proposal with him giving the 1.7 in return, or the 1.12 and the 2.7 -- you still won't get a shot at a "stud" RB but you can build some additional depth.

To be very honest... I would shop around AP and see what you might be able to get in return.... I know most feel he is the best fantasy prospect (and I agree), but buy low and sell high.... see what offers come up.

I think this is a terrible move for you, that 1.05 could get you a RB just as good and in two years you'll probably you wish you had taken the rookie anyway...You could probably get Shonn Greene there or McCoy who could take over that job as soon as the end of the year, and on top of that your giving up a top 10 Dynasty WR as well as a rookie RB.

Sounds more to me like the LT owner cashing in on a pretty sweet deal, no way I would let him pry Colston off of me along with the 1.05, no way...That trade leaves you with Moss who is 31 yrs old, Welker, and what else? You would be trying to play catch up with your Wr core in a few years and you would be worrying about replacing LT as soon as the season was over.

I think at this point 1.05 should be enough for LT straight up, looking at how rookie RB's produce now, but if he wanted a Wr still I would offer Welker if your dead set on thinking thinking LT will win the ring for you...I'm a firm believer in that if you don't think your team will be good enough to win the ring with LT maybe you should just take that rookie, because you still need to replace that WR production Colston would give you, and you would have one more hole then before if you don't win the title.

I like your team better with Colston & Moss and drafting Greene or McCoy and maybe Brown.

Hmmm....tough call here. I'd probably pull the trigger on this, thinking I could snag at least Pat White in the rookie draft. Also agree with shopping AP - there are plenty of lemmings out there willing to part with a Turner or D-Will & a good WR2 for a shot at him. As for LT: He's healthy, has taken a pay cut, and is serious about breaking the record. All in all, expect the unexpected career season.

He'll get a RB at 1.05 just as good as LT? Really? You do know the bust rate of rookies right? Awfully absolute statement there without much at all to back it up with. No way you land LT for a rookie pick outside of the top 4...that's just ridiculous.

Your stuck Cowboy, at least in this deal. Your team is a RB2 away from a legit shot at a championship but sending Colston off in a trade for that RB2 will take you out of the running again.

Dealing Colston and starting Moss, Welker and Holt is a bad thing to have to rely on.

You need to explore another option at securing your RB2. I have no real issues, imo opinion in a pure dynasty format you are overpaying slightly. LT2's real value is at an all time low and you should be able to get him cheaper than that but it won't be dirt cheap. Even if the rookie pick was a 1.07 I would swing the deal but giving up on at the worst Greene and Colston for LT2 for a couple more years is a bit much.

You have several intriguing players that I don't think will amount to much but at the present time you can get some value out of them. Bennett, Crayton, Shockey (no idea why you are carrying 5 te's BTW) should all be shopped now.

My first offer would involve Welker. I can't see the exact deal off the top of my head as I think it will involve several players but it could be as simple as Welker, 1.05, Crayton and Miller for LT2 and 1.07.

Bungle and LS2

The Ironic thing is this is the team I made up in the distribution draft of Any Given Dynasty with a combo of both of your teams and Canucks. At least I think it was both of your teams.

Tough situation which is why I came here. I personally don't like the deal and feel giving Colston is a too much. As mentioned it defeats the purpose because I might not be able to replace the points he would have put up but gain at RB. But if LT can comeback like he says AD and him would be a terror. The difference between Benson/Mcgahee and LT is huge. More than the difference between Colston and Holt, Camarillo, or Crayton. The real question is do I try and win now or try and keep building for a year or so to get me over the top.

Rackin my brain.

Thanks everyone. Feedback left. ;-D

Your right, the bust rate is incredibly high, I didn't mean to say it was an automatic thing he'd end up with a better RB, but going into the 2010 season there is a legit chance you would rather have McCoy or Greene over LT at that point, either way I just wouldn't be willing to take that risk and lost Colston at the same time...In a few years he'd by trying to replace LT and upgrade his WR core, and while there is a huge risk that the rookie bust there is also a huge risk in that LT isn't going to be the same dominant runner anymore that he used to be.

@Cowboys

Good luck with the team ;-D Colston was previously on mine, I had a solid core with Turner, Stewart, Colston, Fitz, and Holmes, but that RTC website that the league is run on is BY FAR the most confusing I've had to deal with...I had trouble doing basic things like picking up FA's, putting in claims, setting my starting line-up, it was just a hassle every week, so if you've never been on it I suggest getting a full breakdown from someone like aaawall who knows his way around the site because I wasn't even starting the right amount of players for half the year lol.
