Trying to improve my 1-12 dynasty team

Postby tmoney26 » Thu May 14, 2009 10:24 pm

2008 Roster

qb- mcnabb, campbell, kolb
rb- buckhalter, a.green, a.hall, e.james, ke.jones, l.jordan, ri.williams. j.charles
wr- g.jennings, j.cotchery, r.curry, j.gage, dj.hackett, m.jones, g.lewis, l.robinson, c.schilens
te- z.miller, d.lee, j.shockey
k- folk
d- ne, oak

Obviously it's not that hard to see why my team was 1-12 but I kind of knew my season was a loss because I was in a rebuilding mode and took on contracts that expired this year to get some rookie/free agent spending dollars. So I picked up some rookies, made one trade and I'm now ready to focus on free agents that are available. Which area needs the most work?

2009 Roster

qb- mcnabb, campbell, kolb, freeman (r)
rb- j.jones, j.charles, c.buckhalter, c.wells (r), s.greene (r), l.mccoy (r)
wr- d.bowe, j.cotchery, c.schilens, heyward-bey (r), p.turner (r)
te- z.miller, d.lee
k/d- same

I still have some money available and there are some decent free agents.

Top 15 free agents

qb- k.warner, c.pennington, j.delhomme, k.orton, m.schuab
rb- l.johnson, d.ward
wr- r.moss, t.owens, h.ward, s.moss, d.mason, k.walter, d.driver, s.breaston, m.muhammed

Chances are if I get r.moss or owens it would cost the majority of what I have left in cap room. So should I target either moss or owens and thats it or should I get maybe 2 wr's for about the same maybe ward/s.moss.

12 team-Lineup is 1qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1te, 1r/w/t, d, k- ppr league

I still think my wr are still pretty weak and could use some help and it wouldn't hurt to add another decent arm because freeman is a project.
Who would you target to improve this team?

For the right money the best pick ups imo would be Ward, Breaston and Walter. All young, all have their roles defined. I think you are making some great moves to improve your team but are not yet at contender status and it would be a waste of money this year to buy a Moss or Owens or Warner.

I would throw all my money at Moss. He is 32 and still a freak. Brady is healthy(ish). He is worth the investment and worth a lot more than 2 other parts. TO is too much of a risk with his age, a bad QB and a new team each year.

I would spend the rest of my money on $1 RBs. The rest of your positions are good enough. What other RB prospects are there?

Could you afford both Derrick Ward and Steve Breaston? I think there are Wr's who would help you more short term but I still don't think your one guy away from making the playoffs, and especially winning, Breaston has the best mixture of youth, potential, and short term production of the choices and shouldn't be that much, he's probably the long term #2 WR to Fitzgerald and a pretty good one.

Ward you almost need, and probably the most, he'll be a good Rb at least two years and him J. Jones make you respectable at least at the RB position.

I would target Schaub, Walter, and Breaston.

You do indeed need another arm -- and I predict Schaub to be a low-end QB1 with the potential to finish as a top-5 QB.

Walter put up the quietist 1000 yard receiving season ever -- he will probably never be a WR1 (especially playing opposite AJ) but he offers steady production and improves your WR corps.

Breaston was a decent option as a 3rd WR in AZ, and especially when he had a chance to start last year. And he is one Boldin trade or Boldin injury away from being a starter in the 2nd best passing offense in the NFL (IMHO behind NO).

Driver could also be an option if the price is low enough -- that GB offense should be humming along again in '09.

While I'm inclined to suggest beefing up your RB corps with D.Ward, you asked about WRs. With cap room a factor, I'd take Breaston first (he's the 3rd 1000-yd WR in AZ). Next, try to squeeze in H.Ward - he's a starting possession receiver & his stats are fairly high & consistent. Otherwise, take K.Walter (10 TDs even opposite AJ).
