My kingdom for a WR

Postby thriftyrocker » Fri May 15, 2009 12:58 pm

Dynasty 10 team no PPR league with OP slot. I was 5-8 last year and I think my WRs will continue to be the death of me.

Here is my team (with starters / roster maximums):

QB (1 / 6 max): P Rivers, C Palmer, S. Hill, B Quinn, C Henne
OP (1 QB/WR/RB flex): T Romo
RB (2 / 8 max): D Williams, Westbrook, M Barber, R Bush, R Brown, P Thomas, R Rice
WR (3 / 10 max): B Edwards, TJ Housh, D Bowe, T Holt, K Curtis, D Hixon
TE (1 / 3 max): A Gates
DST (1 / 3 max): NEP
K (1 / 3 max): S. Gostkowski

My picks

1.5, 1.6, 2.5 (pick 15), 3.5, 4.5

Questions

1) Who do you think I should be targeting with my two 1sts?

2) What players should I move in order to improve my WRs?

My thoughts

If I pick Greene and LSMC, I would be over the RB limit.

I really like the value of the QBs at 1.6 since you can start 2, but I am already at the QB limit.

I don't see Maclin, Harvin or any of the non-Crabtree WRs helping me much early on. Although I like both Maclin and Harvin more than my bench WRs.

I think I could move DeAngelo for AJ or Jennings straight up given that owner has nothing at RB (but pick 1.3). But even that will be tough given the owner.

I pretty much know Crabtree will be taken at 1.2 if not before.

5-8? Tough league.

All of your RB's are tradeable...now which ones. In a dynasty you are just not going ot get great value for Westy in the offseason. Barber just took a hit as well. Brown is also a wait and deal later candidate for me.

I think DWill's 2008 season will be his best and he will not put up those numbers again. Pierre made out allright after the draft. I would put these 2 as the trade candidates. Now, what can you get, you should have your pick of WR's as long as the other owner is not loaded at RB for DWill. He would be my first choice to move and I would target Calvin, Fitz or AJ only. You can move downa tier but get somethign else thrown in.

At 1.05 and 1.06... I am taking Greene and Harvin. I have Robiskie ranked 15th overall but I think he may be going higher than that. Tate and Iglesias are options as well. I presonally would not touch a QB before 24 but I think I may stadn alone on that... at the very least I would not take a QB inside 15.

Alright QB is out of the question with your picks. You have 3 Good starters and you can start 2. Plus you have 2 young QB's in the waiting. QB POS is definately a strength given your Flex spot. I really like Palmer to have a comeback year and be a top 10 QB. You could try to trade picks/RB to get a WR or you could just go WR/WR with 1.5 and 1.6. You could go Maclin and Harvin which really improve your team alot. I know the story about WR's but IMO if you got both of those guys 1 would probably be your BYE week guy. I'm really high on Maclin and believe he could be better than Crabtree. Also if you decide to take a RB like Greene then I would definately take Maclin or Harvin with the second pick. You most pressing need is WR because all of them have ? besides BOWE. If it was me I would go Maclin and Harvin and let one of them guys become a stud and the other a Bust and you still get what you need. You have good quality depth at RB thats why I wouldn't even take one. If you take McCoy or Green or Brown if he falls to you somehow then definately won't be starting for your team. But Maclin or Harvin could start if one of them pans out. The only I would take a RB is so I could trade one of your RB's later like Bush, Brown, or Thomas. Have you tried to trade one the 3 I just stated and 1.5 or 1.6 for a WR?

Yeah I feel the same about taking a QB. Personally if he doesn't take a QB early I wouldn't take one at all because the top 2 seem to be the only good ones. The only way I would take a QB is if you can deal Palmer and RB for a WR.

Calvin is unattainable. I tried last summer and couldn't get it done. That's how I ended up with Housh and 1.6 (same owner). I could always try DeAng + Braylon and see what he does.

AJ is attainable. Owner has Jennings, Colston, and Bryant and best RB is Benson (and 1.3).

Fitz is not attainable. Was fleeced from the AJ owner last summer for RBs that busted. Makes getting AJ harder but not impossible.

Is DeAng for AJ what I want to do? Seems like overpaying without PPR. What about Bush for AJ?

I think 08 was a career year for DeAng just because how could it not be. But I do think it clicked with him with conditioning and what not.

Here is that other owner's roster

QB: Brady, Pennington
OP: Hasselbeck
RB: Benson, Norwood, Maroney, Graham, M. Bush, Caddy WIlliams, Torian, JJ Arrington
WR: AJ, Jennings, Colston, Bryant, Harry Douglas, Devin Thomas, Steve Smith NYG
TE: Cooley
Picks: 1.3, 2.3, 3.2, 3.3, 4.3

I for one have no issues overpaying as long as I get what I want. I have been after a stud QB for 2 years in a dynasty league and have offered as large as Jacobs, Eil, Marshall and a 2nd rounder last year for Rodgers, got turned down. My offer is now Jacobs, EIl and Welker for Rodgers and his 1st.

AS you know, start as low as you can. You won't get AJ for Bush imo but if you are comfortable with starting there, go ahead. Personally, I would go DWIll and something for Aj and 1.03. Only problem with that is not much room to move from that offer.

I don't know that the other owner would do Bush for AJ straight up in a non-PPR league.

I would have no problem giving up DWill for AJ straight up, especially with the RBs that you have -- there is virtually no way DWIll repeats his numbers from last year. His TD totals were hyper-inflated by a few 3+ TD games last year, plus he has a healthy Stewart that will take some more carries.

I would offer DWill for AJ and his 2.3 pick.

As for your 1.5 and 1.6 picks... I would take best available WR at 1.5, then try and trade down a few spots, trying to get a 2nd round pick for 2010.

I have no problem with your 2nd rookie pick being a QB, as long as the QB is Sanchez. With the ability to start 2 QBs, premium QBs are tough to come by. If you do draft Sanchez, I would drop Henne or Hill.

2 things to keep in mind: (1) D-Will just might repeat his performance (2) AJ just might get injured

I'd try R. Bush & Quinn for AJ, since I don't see fireworks on Quinn's horizon & Pierre is likely to be the Saints' stud this season. If you want to sneak another QB in with a rookie pick, consider Pat White (WR Mia). He's taking a zillion snaps in camp & the Dolphins are obviously grooming him to be Henne's backup when Pennington retires - they've already released the previous QB3. It's obvious, though, that he'll have value this season as a dangerous new piece of the Wildcat offense.
