14th and 28th for Eddie Royal?

Postby gablemancer » Fri May 15, 2009 11:06 pm

Hey everyone,
I have an offer on the table right now for Eddie Royal for the league's 14th and 28th overall picks. The league is deep (32 Team), IDP, PPR, and has receiving touchdowns at 8 points apiece. I'm thinking that at 14th I'll probably have my pick of a top linebacker or lower tier reciever, and at the 28th maybe a chance at a top safety or tight end.

Thanks for any help in advance,
Charlie

Most of my players are Seahawks as that's the team of the 32 I wound up picking and the draft/free agency is yet to take place. Also on defense/offense I don't have any rookies from this year, the roster freeze was on April 24th.

QB - Hasselbeck, Wallace
RB - Julius Jones, Duckett, Forsett
WR - Lee Evans, Michael Jenkins, Burleson, Obamanu, Mario Manningham
TE - Vernon Davis
DL/LB - All the Seahawks still
DB - All the Seahawks with the exception of Michael Huff.

We start a QB, 2RBs, 3WRs, 1TE, 1Utility, 4DL, 3LB, 4DB, 1Utility. This league also has contracts so Eddie Royal will be on my team for the next 3 years, and then he's a free agent (Restricted Free agency is reserved for players with less than 3 years of experience).

You don't list Royal as on your team, yet it sounds like you have him on your team?? Regardless, you have a huge need at WR in a league that is heavily skewed to WRs, for a team that has stir fried crap at WR, so it is obvious to me that you need to have Royal on your team (assuming you can afford his salary). NO WAY do I give up a 1.14 / 1.28 for a player of his caliber and value.

Sorry if I misrepresented what I was doing here. I'm the one who's trading the 1.14 and 1.28 for Royal, not the other way around. I'm about to pull the trigger on this trade and get Royal on my team. Is this a fair trade for me? Or should I ask for something else in addition to Royal like a 2nd/3rd round pick.

Edit - I can easily afford Royal's salary which is just his base salary this year (300-500 thousand a year)

Obviously I like Royal on your team and I think you should ask for a late 2nd or 3rd also to see what the response is.

Royal for the 14 and 28 is an absolute steal. Don't get greedy and ask for more, you run the risk of the other owner realizing how bad of a trade he was about to make.

Remember, this is a very deep IDP league. I play in a league like this and if the scoring is set up properly, defensive players can score as much as offensive players. It looks like a steal, but it's not as wide a gap as you might think if this is true.

That said, he's gotta pull the trigger on getting Royal because of how weak his WR corps is. In addition, offensive players appear to have more value in this format than defensive players (starters are outnumbered 8 - 12).

Alright,
I just got the trade pulled off. I got Royal and the 84th overall pick for my picks at 14 and 28. This year the scoring isn't going to be high enough for IDP to make as much an impact as offensive players, but next year it's going to be changed up so that they will score as much (IE increase the tackles from 1 point to 2 points). I've trade down in the first round three times now. First time I got Vernon Davis, second time I got Michael Jenkins, and this time I got Eddie Royal. I feel like the Browns or something. Thank you for all the great and helpful advice!

Smart move for your team, you took on a cheap contract, and Royal is going to have a really strong sophmore year.
