You cannot be likening the term "Fighting Irish" with "The Redskins?" The Notre Dame Crackers would be more similar to The Washington Redskins. For you people shrugging this off as just another case of overblown political correctness I have to ask if you would find any of those other names offensive? The Term "Redskin" is just as ugly and disgusting a racist term as any of those. It's not about being "PC", it's about not being ignorant. An entire race was virtually wiped off the face of the earth and some of you think it's OK to have a sports team, on their land, with a Native American mascot and a slanderous racist name? If you don't see how wrong that really is you never will.

Let's be honest here. Who gives a rats ass about Native Americans? When sports fans are sitting in their air-conditioned SUVs eating their MCDonald's on the way home from a football game do you think they are reminded of the poor Indians we stole this land from? Who cares that they were "virtually wiped off the face of the Earth"? That's some politically correct BS right there to reference Native American suffering. No one cares about the Indians, YOU don't care about the Indians. Just like you don't care about the people living in Africa, you know the people our ancestors abducted to become slaves in this country?
Do I feel guilty that I live a better life than 99% of the world? Hell no and I won't apologize for it. Look around the world at all the people who are living in a place they call home. At one point in time those people took that land away from someone else and did terrible things to those people. I didn't kill any Indians and take their land, but I have gambled at an Indian casino. Where you personally ended up is all the luck of the draw.
This particular argument should only be about using a racial slur for a team name, not about what Americans did to the "Native Americans". And if you're against the Redskins, you are also against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Cleveland Indians right? I find it funny how racism is so taboo in this country yet at the same time so prevalent in our society. It's like the parents who teach their children never to say the F word, but then curse at a player on the TV during a football game. It's not right, but it still happens. We're all hypocrits. When you first saw APU owner of the Quickee Mart in the Simpsons, did you turn off the TV in disgust?
And back to the topic, how much money does a 17 year old court case cost to represent and defend anyways? Time itself costs money and 17 years is a long time. It would be a shame if the courts could have spent that time on things that actually mattered to most people, maybe like the innocent people who have been sitting in jail for the past 10 years because the courts are too backlogged to take a second look at the new evidence in their trials? And the Native Americans who are representing this case, maybe they could have used the money to benefit their people in a real sense. Donate their time and money to stop poverty on reservations maybe? Alcohol counseling? Improving the education of their young people? You think taking away the "Redskins" is going to do anything at all against racism?
Do you have a story about a Native American person that you have met in your lifetime? If you do, I will retract what I said about you not caring about them.
