A decent solution to having a late pick?

Postby SheaColandri » Mon May 18, 2009 7:54 am

Stuck with the 1.08 pick in a 10 team draft, I got mean & snapped up trade bait. Need opinions on how much leverage i might have to trade for a top-4 RB....maybe more. My draft:

QB: Brees, Rivers, Cassel, Palmer

RB: Slaton, Pierre Thomas, Leon Washington, Sammy Morris

WR: D.Bowe, Antonio Bryant, Hines Ward, Lance Moore, Hester

TE: Winslow

D/ST: Chargers

K: Bironas

League starts QB, 2RB, 2WR, FLEX, D/ST, K

Do you start 2 QBs? You are awfully deep at QB but not so much at RB or WR.

I would look to trade Rivers or Cassell. I like Rogers more than Rivers, and I think Palmer is a great sleeper candidate -- you can afford to move one of the other two.

Can you post the rosters of the team that pick 1.1 and 1.2? Maybe we can make a suggestion on what to offer.

I've tried this a couple times before when QB or TE just keep dropping and no one is picking them up.

I think you're starting off having cornered yourself in. Your RB quality and depth is bad for a 10 teamer. I don't think you will turn Rivers or Palmer into a great #2 RB. You don't have many pieces you can really add together to turn into a legit trade.

One plus is the rosters seem shallow and with only 10 teams, there will be guys on the waiver wire, esp RBs as people get injured. Of course that means QBs will be easily replaced as well, so you've got to strike while the iron's hot if you can identify a team in need right now.

I agree Thrifty. I play in a league with Thrifty and we watched a guy do it last year... bad move. In a 10 team league, even worse. 32 QB's in the league and your league only needs 10... not good odds.

You are going to have to target the bottom 3-4 QB teams and see what you can swing. I may even wait on it until preseason or possibley the first 2-3 weeks and hope for the injury that you can take advantage of.

If you got a team who needs a WR, RB, and wants a first rounder offer than Ward, Cassell and/or Rivers, and 1.08 for a RB you like.

Thanks everyone for your insights! I agree this is a crapshoot...might work if, say, Orton has a terrible couple of games to start season -- might make Brees for a RB1 worth it to some shmuck.
