D. Ward for W. Welker or Housh and J. Lewis? WHIR!

Postby Hawkeye1 » Fri May 22, 2009 9:52 am

We just had our college draft in my 10 team dynasty league and that got the trade offers flowing. I put each player's contract numbers in parenthesis (yr./$) Here's what I'm looking at - I have an offer for W. Welker (6/21) for my Derrick Ward (1/5). I also have another trade offer for Ward that would net me TJ Housh (3/28) and Jamal Lewis (1/24). Welker is very consistant and could improve his numbers with Brady back. Housh could bounce back with a healthy QB and playing in the NFC West. Lewis, it seems, is on his last legs but I draft Davis who should HOPEFULLY take his place eventually. Not sure what to expect from Ward this year. Should I pull the trigger on either of these? Here's my roster as of right now. We have to have 27 guys signed by the end of the "regular" draft on Sept. 1.
Clinton Portis
Chad Pennington

Does your league award points per reception?

Need your roster req's please.

You don't have Ward listed in your roster, just FYI. YOu only have to viable options at RB in Portis and Ward. Ward, personally, I would rather have as a RB3 then an RB2. You are light on WR's as well unfortunately. I wouldn't touch deal 2 unless you have a ton of cap room and can write off Jamal as a luxury. Housh is ok, Jamal is ridiculous at that price.

Do you have the first option to resign Ward next year if he performs or does he go directly into FA?

Yea, without more specific perameters, we're kinda limited with what/how we can respond.

Based on the info provided, definitely agree about staying away from the deal with TJ & Lewis. Now the first deal with Welker intrigues me greatly as he definitely has six more years in him (excluding any injury issues). Also, Ward will be in a rbbc situation with Graham & ? (Caddy, Smith, ???). Given that both your rb's & wr's need help, I'd definitely would consider the Welker deal.

If you could give us some more info, we could possibly give more concise responses/help..... :-/ :-?

League does NOT award points per reception. I could re-sign Ward next year, but only if I franchised him (gave him a contract above the average of top 5 RB contracts) or transitioned him ( gave him a contract above the average of top 10 RB contracts).

We start
1 QB
5 RBs/WRs - Could be 1 RB and 4 WRs, could be 3 RBs and 2 WRs or anywhere in the middle
1 TE
1 K
2 Utility (Any position)

I would take the Ward for Welker deal. I would also look at dealing Portis for 2 younger less established players. While POrtis is by far your best player he hurts your team. Get something for him while he stills holds good value. I would look at guys like Pierre Thomas, Jonathon Stewart, Kevin Smith and get a good young WR thrown in like Gonzo, Breaston, DeSean.

I would also sell LenDale this year but during the season. He won't be back with Tenn next year is my guess.
