Need advice on upcoming 2nd rookie pick......

Postby z raptor » Fri May 22, 2009 10:30 pm

16-team idp dynasty league w/ppr. Yea, recent thread by hobo....same league....lol....in fact, he picks right in front of me. I'm looking heavy into wr's the first two rounds (picked Robiskie in the 1st round). The following are the rookies I'm looking at:

J.Dillard
R.Barden
S.Stroughter
A.Collie
R.Jennings
C.Perrman
C.Matthews

Here's my current roster:

EEL Dynasty League (8-5-0 in 2008)
QB: K.Warner, A.Rodgers, M.Flynn, B.Favre
RB: L.White, E.Graham, J.Fargas, T.Hightower,
F.Jackson, TJ.Duckett, R.Moats, K.Darby,
D.Ware, C.Brown
WR: B.Marshall, E.Royal, D.Branch, D.Bess,
G.Camarillo, C.Schilens, S.Smith (nyg),
P.Garcon, D.Clowney, B.Smith, B.Robiskie
TE: O.Daniels, B.Scaife, J.Finley
PK: S.Graham, N.Rackers
DL: J.Smith, J.Tuck, C.Jenkins
LB: G.Brackett, S.Cooper, J.Diles, HB.Blades,
A.Jordan, S.Nicholas
DB: A.Bethea, Y.Bell, C.Horton

Now, I possibly could be entertaining a trade offer for my 2.12 pick (would be getting James Jones). I really like J.Jones but I do realize he'll be a really BIG fantasy factor once D.Driver retires or moves on (which I'm figuring in 2010). This trade would be pending upon the rookie that owner is interested is still on the board at the 2.12 pick.

My question is do I pick Dillard (who I think is the next best rookie wr after Robiskie), try to make the trade for Jones, or pick someone else (like C.Matthews, though I don't need a LB, gotta luv Matthews family tree...just like Robiskie's).

As I was writing this, I kinda started talking myself into taking the trade if it can be worked out.....lol

BUT, I don't want my head to "explode" over this ...8-o :-* X-I !+)...so any advice (as always) is greatly appreciated!!!

Why are you targeting Wr's in the first two rounds when your best RB's are Lendale White and Earnest Graham? You don't have any depth either, your WR's are good enough to get you by if Marshall and Royal don't get hurt but you've got to address RB at this point and probably should of looked at someone instead of taking Robiske.

Do you start more WR's a week or something? I just don't understand why all your trades were centered around WR's in return when you don't have anyone to rely on consistently at RB, if that doesn't change it'll be hard to ever realistically compete.

Agreed...if Jennings is there you HAVE to take him because you need to load up on some guys that have the potential to be solid fantasy RBs because the one's on your team aren't exactly stellar at the moment.

You have to take Jennings. You need Rb depth bad. He could be a steal if MJD gets hurt.

Interesting (& I'm definitely seeing my team differently) because I see only five legit wr's on my team (Marshall, Royal, Branch, Smith, & Bess); the rest is all speculation whereas my rb's are deeper. Fact is when the regular season comes around, I will only have about 6-7 wr's on the team, just want them to be good & consistent. To me with all the rbbc team are going to, it makes more sense to load up on wr's who play regularly.

Anyway, unfortunitely, J.Davis & R.Jennings just got drafted in front of me and there's not much of any rb still out there except for maybe Peerman (but too many rb's in front of him, though he apparently is a good character guy).

I'll have to think about it some more.....have 24 hours......

Wow. I agree with the others, your RB's are soely lacking. Not sure if Rashad Jennings is the guy to turn it around for you though. Isn't Greg Jones coming back healthy this year for the Jags?

You may as well keep stocking up on wide receivers, I think there is better potential at that position in your draft pool at this point.

I'd take Ramses Barden or Austin Collie right now. Barden's got an outside shot at a starting job with the Giants, and he's the tall end-zone target that could replace Burress in the Giants' scheme. (Lots of WRs in NY though -- S. Smith, D. Hixon, M. Manningham, H. Nicks & Barden).

I like Collie as well, he could be another Brandon Stokley-type guy for the Colts. Since you have Pierre Garcon already and it might be down to those guys for the 3rd-WR spot in Indy, the smart pick could be Collie...
I have the doomsday device!

Your RB's aren't deep at all, your starters are Earnest Graham and Lendale White, neither of those guys should be starting week to week, and you don't have anything behind them to rotate...Fargas is getting fazed out, Hightower is a 3rd down back, and Fred Jackson only has a few weeks to shine.

Nothing behind those guys are worth much, and going into 2010 it's very likely Lendale and Graham both are looking for work or getting their roles decreased even more...Can you start 5 WR's? I just don't see the point is wanting to stock up WR's like your trying to do if you can only start 3 when you need RB help so badly.

Could you move Warner and that 2nd for a RB in a trade? I'd start to look at some other options.

Thanks for all the input/insight. That's how I was looking at R.Jennings with Greg Jones in the mix. Between Collie and James Jones, I like Jones better simply because he IS the #3 wr in a very good offense plus he should take Driver's spot in a year, in time I was on an errand from this morning, I'm going to try to do the trade for Jones. If it doesn't go through, then I'm going to have to decide between Dillard, Matthews, & Collie (at least at this point) with Collie making more sense the more I look at it.

Adding to my comments earlier, I look at the majority of my wr's (other than Marshall & Royal) as 'feast or famine' so (I guess) that's why I'm targeting as many wr's as possible (i.e. throw them against the wall and see what sticks/is left). I'm truthfully taken aback a little on my RB's as I think their going to be not great, but consistent (though I do understand the value of a stud RB), so I guess I'm going relook at this. Of course, if the majority of the WR's 'stick', there's always trades out there as many of our owner's need WR's......

Thanks again for all the insights............hope all of you have a great & safe Memorial Day weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
