dynasty trade (braylon) WHIR

Postby nevilleflynn » Mon May 25, 2009 5:37 pm

Heya, I'm in a deep dynasty league (16 teams, 42 man rosters, start CB/DE/DT/S/LB/K/P as well as normal offensive positions) that's just starting out and I received the following offer:

MY: Braylon Edwards CLE, WR; Cornelius Ingram PHI, TE
FOR HIS: Bernard Berrian MIN, WR; Greg Olsen CHI, TE; 12.16O (will pick either Robert Meachem, James Jones or Mike Walker probably with the pick -- maybe Kevin Jones to handcuff Forte)

My current roster:
Pos (Start)
QB (1) -- Aaron Rodgers, GB; Chad Henne, MIA
RB (1-2) -- Matt Forte, CHI; Ray Rice, BAL; Jamaal Charles, KC; James Davis, CLE; Tashard Choice, DAL
WR (2-4) -- Braylon Edwards, CLE; Steve Breaston, ARI; Miles Austin, DAL; Josh Morgan, SF; David Clowney, NYJ; Ramses Barden, NYG
TE (1-2) -- Zach Miller, OAK; Cornelius Ingram, PHI

My thoughts are that post-trade I'll have a serviceable WR to slot in at WR2/WR3 for the next year or two. I also protect myself against my WR sleepers not panning out by possibly starting 2 TEs and 2 WRs rather than 1 TE and 3 WRs. I'll have two of the best young TEs in the game, and be set at the position for the distant future. However, I'm losing my only real proven commodity at WR, and who should be a solid WR1 for at least a couple of years, and only really gain a temporary solution and some depth at the position. Ingram isn't really a factor, I took him in the 5th round of the rookie draft as a complete flyer (no real TE backups left -- several players went off the board way too early imo, but I'm only losing out one week a year unless Miller gets hurt or completely drops off the face of the earth).

I guess long story short, would you do it?

No way, no how.

TE's are a dime a dozen and it's never a good idea to start 2 TEs and 2 WRs rather than 1 TE and 3 WRs. (unless you had Gonzo and Gates four years ago)

You downgrade your WR by getting Berrian who had under 50 catches last year with Bobby Wade catching more. If Berrian can catch 80 balls at his current YPC he would be elite. But the throws just don't come because he is pretty one dimensional - a deep threat. Braylon is your only proven talent. I think Braylon has proven he can be elite. Don't know what to make of last year but he is a great bounce back candidate who can be had cheap.

Olsen was still in a split situation last year and came in top 5. He can only get better but how much will Cuttler affect that and in what way does he affect it good or bad.

If you are doing this for the possibility of starting 2 TE's then you are doing it for the wrong reason. If you trade for Olsen then he is your starter with Miller on the Bench.

Tough call here. I believe Braylon will put up better stats than Berrian by about as much as Olsen will over your current starter Miller. I think you are fine at TE but need to draft one for Depth. Olsen gives you that depth but leave you very weak at WR.

I think I would seek out a better deal. Trading Braylon now is probably not a good idea.

Two very solid pieces of advice above.

Stay well away from this trade idea.

Best of luck ;-D

Yeah I agree with the others in that I would pass on this deal.

I like Olsen, as I think Cutler will target him a lot this year, but I don't like the downgrade you have to provide by getting rid of Braylon... and Berrian isn't enough to make a difference. I would pass.

I agree with the others, pass on this deal. I wouldn't trade Braylon right now with his value so low. I do expect him to have a nice bounce back year.
