10 team keeper league, we keep 6. Standard scoring.
My 6 keepers are: AP, Ronnie Brown, Ryan Grant, Colston, Edwards, and Tony Gonzalez. I am not keeping a QB. I won last year and have the 1.10 and 2.1 picks in this year's draft.
I got REALLY lucky with Thigpen leading me to a championship last year. Unless there is exceptional value for a RB, my plan is to draft a QB and a WR at those spots.
I have forecasted that McNabb, Ryan, Schaub, and Roethlisberger will all be available when it comes to my picks. How do you rank these QBs? Remember, this is a keeper league and not a dynasty, so youth is not the most important characteristic I am interested in. I want to win again this year.
Thanks for your help -- leave me a link and I will help you in return.
Schaub - Pass first offense and no more Rosenfels to steal reps. (health concern) McNabb - Pass first offense, but turns 33 this season. (health concern) Ryan - Can he continue to improve or will he take a step back? Roethlisberger - Good NFL QB, Bad Fantasy QB.
Same as Bungle. If Schaub doesn't get hurt he can end up being a steal where he is drafted but Mcnabb puts up the numbers every year. His only downside is injuries which didn't happen last year. Ben should improve upon last year and so should Ryan with Gonzo.

McNabb Schaub Ryan -- might not want him if you are keeping Gonzo Ben
Another thought, could you package those picks to get a better, young QB like a Rivers or Cutler. Those guys should post great numbers for the next 5-6 years. The question you have to ask yourself is are you losing that much if you are planning on taking one of these guys listed above and WR3 to get a young stud QB? I do see your reluctance to make a trade if you won the league with Thigpen last year however. You can take a 2nd or 3rd tier QB because the difference in points between QB 5-12 in your league is probably marginal. I just don't love any of the guys above, especially for the next 2-3 years in a keeper league.
Just out of curiosity how did your league come up with six keepers? I don't know if I have every seen that number of keepers before. We currently keep four but it is tough to keep some developmental players with such a low number of keepers so we are always looking to make some tweaks. Any insight on how this works for your league would be much appreciated.

First off thanks for your help.
To answer your question -- a few years ago we turned our redraft league into a keeper league, and we started with 4 keepers each team, and each year we have added +1 keeper, so now we are up to 6.
It's pretty fun in that it's a dynasty hybrid -- you have a core of players to keep, but we still have a draft (16 rounds in '09) every year.
We have a pre-draft meeting coming up in which we will discuss how we move forward with # of keepers. The proposal that is most likely to pass (at this point) is that each squad will keep 5 and then draft 2 rounds.... then the owners can keep up to 4 additional players, but would sacrifice a pick starting with the third round of the rookie/free agent draft (i.e. if you keep 2 more players, you give up your third and fourth picks).
I see some major advantages to teams that draft well -- the chance to have an almost complete starting squad (plus a few key backups) as keepers, PLUS the chance to draft in the first two round of the rookie/free agent draft.
A cool thing with fantasy football is that you can do leagues about 100,000 different ways -- this is a unique type of keeper league for sure!

Well, through conventional wisdom out the door!
Of these 4, McNabb is a perenniel disappointment. I just can't understand how he is even in consideration. I avoid that guy like the plague because of too many years of getting burned. Doesn't mean he doesn't have a freak good year, but I'm not sticking around to find out.
Steeler fan that I am, not a fan of Ben in FFB. Steelers are a run team. Yeah, Ben had a good year in 07 but back to normal in 08.
I like Ryan. I think the kid does well this year, on par with Aaron Rodgers last year. The only thing this guy needs to have it all is a scary #2 WR. Turner, White and Gonzo are putting him in a pretty good spot. In a Dynasty league, I pick Ryan over all without a question. Confidence is as important than talent and I see the kid's got it! And don't forget, he took the loser Atlanta Falcons to an 11-5 record in his rookie year. Was he just fortunate? Perhaps, but the last guy to produce like that was Ben, Mr. Confidence himself. I realize that with Turner this looks like a run team, but did the coaching staff have that in mind when they obtained Gonzo, the TE of endzone madness?
But, this isn't a dynasty team. So if that sways you away from taking Ryan and betting the farm, I'd go with Schaub above all else. AJ, Walters, Daniels, Slaton...he's got nice options. But durability is my concern for both he and AJ, and Ryan shouldn't have that issue.
Thanks for your help on mine.

While I agree that you can put McNabb in the frustrating Qb category along with guys like Eli he does put up numbers. Over the last 5 years he has ranked #7, #14, #8, #6 and #4. Not too bad.
