Who should I cut? WHIR

Postby Steeltowne Commish_The Slovene » Fri May 29, 2009 7:21 am

A lot here so comment on any or all. Thanks! ;-D

May 31 I have to get my team at or under the $100 salary cap. I'm over $9 now so I have to cut some. Who should I let go? Even though I am thin at RB, I'm thinking Graham, partly because of Derrick Ward and partly because I could get him back in the rookie/free agent draft next month at $5 instead of $9.

I have been offered Derrick Ward and Lance Moore for Andre Johnson. The cap difference will gain me $14 of cap space. I've tried to get this guy to give me a 1st round pick this year (1.9) or next, but he really doesn't want to give up this year's. What should I expect?

Another offer is 1.11 for my Greg Olson. The picks I now have are 2.2, 2.5, 3.2, 4.11, 5.2. I'd like to see this guy give me 1.11 and Earl Bennett as well. Too much to ask?

The only other option I have is to try to unload A. Johnson, who is too expensive at $21, to the guy with pick 1.5. Do I do that straight up or ask for a receiver in return. He has De. Jack, S. Moss, Galloway, V.Jack, Ochocinco, S.Rice, Jenkins and N. Washington. If I could get this I might get a decent rookie RB.

I have only days to pull of these trades :-o and I could really use some wisdom here. Your help will be appreciated. Post a link and I'll help in return.

First of all, I would reject both of those trades. I would cut Graham. I fully expect Ward to be the starter in TB and get most of the carries. $9 is a lot to spend on a backup RB.

I agree with niner.....Cut Graham...

the Olsen trade....I think this guy has the potential to be the #1 TE this year....Cutler loves throwing to Te's and Olsen is a top talent, if he can stay on the field......

even though AJ is high priced, he's a stud...your WR are solid...so I would take the hit....

Good Luck!!

Yup, spot on. Cutting Graham solves your cap worries for now.

I was going to say hell yeah to that Ward/Moore for AJ trade, until I saw that you were the one giving up AJ. No deal.

I wouldn't do AJ for the 1.5 either, even with another WR thrown in.

You're looking good at all positions. The only thing I'd want is a good rookie RB. You'll be able to pick up a good rookie WR with your current picks. That said, I'd be perfectly fine simply cutting Graham and going into the draft with your current team.

I"m with everyone else, cut Graham, he is good, but you can most likely resign him for much less than the $9 you are spending on him now. I think what you need to do is to rebuild your rb depth, you have MBIII and Smith and not much beyond them, so I would look to draft some young quality rb's.
As far as the trades for AJ it doesn't make sense to me to trade away a top 5 wr for junk just to get under the cap, you would really hurt your team. Reject these offers and if they want AJ they need to give up more than what has been offered to you so far. It is tough to say, without seeing there rosters, to say what would be a fair trade between your teams, but so far, not enough has been offered. Good luck.

Cut Graham, Jones and Rhodes. Keep AJ. I would probably also pull the trigger on the Olsen trade. You really don't need 3 TEs. Getting a 1st rounder for a TE is huge.

I agree with you and the others that Graham is the guy to cut.

:-t No way

I love Olson's potential this year -- I would pass on this as well.

I disagree that AJ is too expensive -- he is one of the cornerstones of your team and I would leave him alone on your roster.

I have only days to pull of these trades :-o and I could really use some wisdom here. Your help will be appreciated. Post a link and I'll help in return.

It can get convoluted with the auction values, but I think you are on the right track with your squad. I would probably want to get deeper at RB, but you may not have the horses to make that deal this year, short of including AJ in a deal for a stud RB.

If that guy won't throw in a fisrt round pick to get Johnson, arguably the best fantasy WR out there, he's nuts. Don't do any of those deals.

I went ahead and cut Graham, and I'm desparately thin at RB. I'm still concerned that AJ is going to be worth $21 each year for the next 3 years, and I'm looking at Jenning's value doubling on me if he performs well again this year.

Thanks guys for your help. We'll see how this plays out.
