Trading for Peyton Manning

Postby FantasySportsMaven » Fri May 29, 2009 4:23 pm

I was offered this trade which I rejected:
I give up Orton, my 2009 2.01, and 2010 1st round draft picks
and
I get Peyton Manning and his 2010 3rd round draft pick.

He responded by saying for me to counteroffer with Orton and draft picks and he'll consider it.

I was thinking about offering this:
I give up Orton, my 2009 2.01 and 2010 1st round draft picks
and
I get Manning and Plaxico Burress.

This is a 12 team H2H Dynasty League with standard scoring plus PPR.

If I did this trade, I'd still have my 1.01, 3.01 and 4.01 draft picks.

Here is my current Roster:
QBs: McNabb, Orton, Delhomme
RBs: Kevin Smith, Forte, L. Johnson, E. Graham, McGahee, Morris, Arrington
WRs: Driver, Hester, Curtis, Toomer, Reed
TEs: Gonzo, Daniels
Ks: Vinatieri
Ds: Ravens, Colts

What should I do if anything?

After giving your team a quick glance, I'd suggest standing not making that offer. Trading for Manning would serve almost no purpose as you already have McNabb.

Instead of looking to trade for a QB, I'd look to add some help at WR. Driver is certainly not a WR #1. If it's not looking like you're going to be able to land a quality, young WR for an Orton + draft pick(s) package, taking a WR at pick 2.01 wouldn't be horrible.

I agree, you are fine with your qb's, your biggest weakness is your wr's. Your entire team is solid, except for your wr's, if you are looking to make a move and trade away draft picks I would look to go after some wr's and see what you can get. I think if you add a high end #1 wr then your team is very solid for a 12 team dynasty. Good luck.

I agree in that I don't think you need this trade. You don't need Manning. You're going to start McNabb anyway.

Keep your picks and draft some WRs. If you have the #1 overall I'd consider drafting Crabtree with it. I would probably draft a WR with your 2nd pick as well unless someone like Green or McCoy fell at 2.01.

Yup, full agreement, do not try for manning. You need to work a little at the Wr slot.

Good luck!

I actually like the trade for Peyton, but I agree with the others who say that QB is not a huge need since you have McNabb. I would look into shopping McNabb for a WR and then pull the trigger on the Manning deal.

I agree with this...Manning is definitely still a good upgrade over McNabb if for no other reason that you know he'll actually play the whole season where McNabb has struggled throughout his career with injuries. I'd shop McNabb and see what you can find for him as far as WRs go and if you can land something good...I'd run with it.
