QB - Peyton Manning RB - Michael Turner, Thomas Jones WR - Greg Jennings, Roy Williams, Jericho Cotchery TE - John Carlson DEF - Green Bay K - Nick Folk BEN - Marshawn Lynch, Steve Breaston, Le'Ron McCain, Tim Hightower, Jeremy Maclin, Justin Gage
I had the 3rd pick in a 12 team Mock. I normally don't take a QB in the second round, but Peyton was too good to pass up. By taking Peyton in the 2nd, I had a big dilemma for the 3rd round. Draft a 2nd RB such as Pierre Thomas, Ronnie Brown, and Ryan Grant and have my WR core totally suck. Or draft a low 1st tier WR with the 3rd pick. I went with the latter, and I think it actually turned out well for me. What do you guys think?
Gotta like some of the guys you have at the key positions but then again the QB pick like you said really hurt you in the depth department. I would personally put Lynch as your RB2 (after he gets back from suspension) but if Thomas Jones comes back half as good as he was last season then it'll set up nice for your team. I personally don't think he has just a great season but he's a REALLY nice RB3.
I'm not too high on Roy E. Williams either, but I guess that's what you give up when taking a stud QB. If Peyton can rise above all the coaching changes and Romo can start connecting with Williams then your team will be nice. But for now I'll give it a B to a B+... nice potential, but then again could go either way to go. Good job, especially for your first time. Maybe try taking Moss or a Brandon Jacobs type of RB in the 2nd to see what you get Gotta love mocks!!
Pretty good draft, but I do not agree with taking a Qb in the second round. You will be able to get a very good QB who will throw for plenty of yards and Td's in the 5th round or later like McNabb, Romo, Rodgers or Rivers. You should have picked up a stud WR in that spot.

Romo Rodger and Rivers go in the 3 or 4 but not 5 or later

Average Draft Position so far according to ESPN that I compiled about a week ago:
So... if I can speak for Tru (which I shouldn't) I think he's speaking about the tiering aspect of a drafting strategy. Instead of picking a QB in the 2nd you could wait 2-3 more rounds to get a QB within one tier of that guy. Instead you could get a top tier guy like Boldin or something in the mid-2nd round whereas you'd get a 3rd or 4th tier WR in return in the 4-5 round. It's not always about drafting for a tier but it's also about considering other positions' tiers and how much they would be affected if you chose a particular guy. There's tons of strategies... just pick the one that works best for you and in your particular scoring situations.

I think this is a solid, not great team. Good QB, I like your two RBs and your #1 Wr, but the next wr I like that you have is Steve Breaston. K and TE are fine, I almost never draft a top tier TE, you can survive with a guy like Carlson who may have a good season. My biggest concern with your team is Green Bay as the defense. It will be their 1st year in the 3-4 and who knows if the transition will work all that well. They take their best defensive player (Kampman) and change his position to OLB/Rushbacker. It will be interesting to see how their defense fairs this year, but I am not particularly high on it.
