Trading Draft Picks

Postby tstringe » Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:38 am

I'm in a 12 team keeper league entering its first season. I want to move up into the mid 2nd round (pick #16) while keeping my current second round pick (#22). The draft is a snake draft. I have the 3rd pick in every odd round and third to last pick in every even round.

What would be fair value to move into that #16 spot?

You're probably going to have to end up giving up your 3rd and 4th rounders here...I think it'll have to be his 2nd and 5th (or 6th) for your 3rd and 4th to really make it work.

It's going to be much more than that I think. I would not move down for that.

Giving #27 and #46 to move up to #16 is fine but to appropriately balance that it's more like a 7th or 8th. Can't ask a guy to move down 11 spots from his 2nd overall pick without paying for it. Being an inaugural keeper makes it worse.

It may need to be a 3 pick deal. His 2nd 6th and 7th for your 3rd, 4th and 5th (didn't crunch numbers on that so may be off but you get the idea)

I agree with Matt.

Giving up your 3rd (#27) and 4th (#46) round picks to get his 2nd rd (#16) and 5th rd (#57) picks makes sense.

Essentially, you move up 11 spots from your 3rd round pick (#27) to his 2nd round pick (#16) and you move down 11 spots from your 4th round pick (#46) to his 5th rd pick (#57).

If I was the other guy I wouldn't do this. Here's both your first five picks if the deal goes down;

You
3.
16.
22.
51.
57.

Him
9.
27.
33.
40.
46.

He has a big gap between his first two picks (21 spots). You go 29 picks after your third pick before you pick again, but that's not as big a deal. The only way the other guy would do this would be if there are a lot of guys in the 3rd and 4th round he likes -- which in most drafts would be TE's and WR's.

Offer it, but don't be surprised if he turns it down.
I have the doomsday device!
