Chargers: It's Rivers' team now

Is it safe to assume the Chargers now are Philip Rivers' team?

Rivers is 33-15 with three division titles in three seasons as San Diego's starter. Peyton Manning is the only quarterback with more regular-season wins in that span (37), but Rivers will gladly take those head-to-head playoff victories against the Colts the last two seasons in return. Thank you very much.

Sure, LaDainian Tomlinson remains a first-round pick in all formats, but Rivers deserves almost as much attention in the fantasy realm. Rivers cracked 4,000 yards and 30 TDs for the first time in 2008. He led the league with a 105.5 passer rating. He had just as many TDs and fewer interceptions than former Chargers starter Drew Brees. Bottom line? Rivers is a winner. Don't sleep on that value.

Same goes for Tomlinson, who totaled 1,536 total yards and 12 TDs in '08 while battling nagging groin and toe injuries. He's not quite done yet, in case you were wondering. Or Antonio Gates, whose version of a "down year" features 704 yards and eight TDs. Or Vincent Jackson, an underrated down-the-field receiver who needed just 59 catches to rack up 1,098 yards. Or a defense that welcomes back linebacker Shawne Merriman.

The Chargers have elite- to borderline-elite talent at every fantasy position, including kicker Nate Kaeding and safety Eric Weddle. That will go a long way in helping them navigate a tough schedule and win their fourth straight AFC West division title. Make no mistake, they will.

And Rivers shall lead the way.
